miyamoto really doesn't understand music and music culture. there is a joy in mastering an instrument that pure pantomime cannot hope to satisfy, and the complexity of individual music tastes suggests that few folks will be satisfied with sanitized standards, bland pop offerings, and videogame theme music. even moreso than wii sports, this is a consummate novelty that appeals to no-one except miyamoto himself, who clearly wants to be able to play an instrument sans the time/energy investment. this is a game DESIGNED to present no challenge, since its creator is affronted by the notion of practice. it's not a game. it's literally something you noodle around with -- a toy you use to occupy time. it's the anathema of wii sports, which is basic competition/challenge for the stupid. it's also the ultimate evolution of iwata/miyamoto's wii philosophy that toys and novelties are superior to actual games -- hence, the controls -- only this time, they've simply gone to far into catering to the blue ocean folks' presumed laziness.
