Who cares! The last thing I'm doing when playing this game is how the texture looks 10 virtual feet out in front of me. The style lends itself to that shit though.

The lack of customization has got me worried. I think the engine has potential to be built upon though. Sega needs to do something with this engine and Shining Force.

I liked what I played of the 1st chapter, but not really feeling srpgs these days so it's in backlog.

The graphics look pretty good for a PS2 game.

I think they're pumping the score due to the nice art style but yeah, nothing in this game screams next gen visually. I imagine its what Okami would look like in HD.

Great scores though, I'm happy its getting positive reviews since I'm looking forward to it.

i thought the demo was pretty fun but since i have a feeling this will bomb and get discounted relatively quickly i'll wait for the pricedrop. wish i would've done the same with IU.

the environments could use more detail and so could the tanks, character models... just about everything in the game could use more detail and shadowing.

The part about the graphics that kills it for me is that it is jaggied up. I think the Naruto game for PS3 (at least the demo did) has the same problem.

this game is really good, but I'm so bad at it. I'm usually not this awful at rpg, or even t/srpg games. Even in the I've only just done the first battle with a full squad and so far I had to retry 2 missions and Alicia died in the most recent one.

it's fairly easy to get into. You get straight into combat, and if the story scenes annoy you, you can just skip them. So far there doesn't seem to be a grand RPG story about saving the world or anything, it's just some alternate WW2 Euro campaign stuff and the battles you guys face.

and I keep forgetting that Elisia is a lonely character when I send her in to mop up two scouts; She freezes up and misses every shot. In the last skirmish, I was forced to send in an engineer to save her.

You level up based on classes. The only individual thing you power up is your tank.

Yeah, but the American market would probably be sizable enough to justify it. I'd say that makes no sense, but this IS Sega we're talking about here so I bet they greenlight 2 sequels exclusively for the PS3.

It's really solid game, and feels better than the demo for some reason (I think once you get to the part where you realize you can send soldiers on higher elevation to snipe/drop grenades on the enemy schmuck's head is where I fell in love). I'm a big fan of SRPGs anyway, so if you want a non-handheld SRPG to tide you over until Sega decides to make a Shining Force 4 and you're tired of Disgaea's super-grindfests, I'd say try this. Also Wikipedia is telling me that there's going to be some DLC coming out for it??

Actually, yes. It plays somewhat similarly. Its hard to explain, but it plays like Jagged Alliance but instead of plotting your character's movement and actions with a mouse click you perform it in real time while still adhering to turn based strategy conventions. It works out very well and I'd be keenly interested in playing more strategy games that rip off Valkyria Chronicles hook.

DLC is coming eventually, but its not out yet. The optional install comes out to 2.3-2.5 gigs, sorry, I don't remember the exact size. Also, I'm not sure that this will ever come down in price, at least not anytime soon. Its got a small print run coupled with great reviews and an under the mainstream appeal and demand (the Atlus formula lets call it). Heck, how often does any niche RPG drastically come down in price? Its not a genre you usually see in the bargin bin alongside last year's sports games and this year's movie-tie ins six months past release.

Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant are both already $40. So is Lost Odyssey if that counts, and Blue Dragon was $20 within 6-8 months of release. Eternal Sonata has been dirt cheap for a long ass time too.

Sony needs to add some new titles to the GH line, like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and Folklore.
