When you enter Banjoland it's easy to get excited about all the potentially fun stuff they could do in that environment, but instead they let you do a slow soapbox race, a time trial race, 'push this ball into the goal 4 times' and a broken defend mission.

The most fun part is making vehicles that are ideal for the task, because the default vehicles can be improved upon.

Absolutely stunning visuals, huge levels and typical Rare humor, but not that exciting gameplay wise.

When do we get the BK1 code? I have a feeling they're going to just throw it in the box for the game like they did with Saints Row 2.

Anywho, downloading. Is it really just 4 shitty missions? I want to see what the later tasks are going to be like, I've seen enough of the simple ones.

OK, I built a new vehicle with all the required parts and it won't fucking move. Do I have to assign gas and brake to the RT and LT buttons or something? The game gives me a flashing warning symbol but doesn't tell me what I did wrong.

I don't get how to assign my egg gun to a button either. It says to use the start menu, but that doesn't have anything.

Looks like you can't stack fuel and engines, they need to be on the same plane.

I fucking love it when you're int he middle of a race, you drive over a curb or go up a normal incline and wind up falling over, and the game doesn't give you the flip function so you are fucked.

the racing just sucks. At least with these basic parts you're given. To make matters worse, when the vehicles hit you there's a big chance you're stuck to eachother for a while. That race was just no fun at all. Neither was the other stuff tbh.

I get the feeling that you're gonna have to create a fuckton of vehicles to succeed in all these challenges. It's fun to tinker around with that editor for a while, but if you have to make adjustments for any specific task I can see it getting boring fast. Around the end of the demo I was already pretty tired of the walk around-try challenge-fail-adjust vehicle-succeed routine.

I think I'm still gonna get it, but yea I dunno. Maybe the later missions will be better, I hope there are informative reviews out there.

I still can't figure out what the best vehicle is for protecting the sharks eyeballs. First I tried that shitty egg shooter but it's too ungainly, so then I tried the red fist thing and it's too slow.

The demo was fun.  I didn't play the entire thing because I really don't want to replay them when I actually buy the game, but from what I've played it was enjoyable.  I don't like how the vehicle creator and general interface are really clunky to use.  The vehicle control was fine to me and I never had a problem with flipping vehicles or anything like that.

And the most surprising thing to me is the text.  This is a weird thing to complain about, but isn't this game for kids? it shows up on the screen for half a second in the incredibly small text.  Maybe that was only the intro, but it was really odd to me.

I want the XBLA version so this comes out, relatively, to another $20 if you order through Amazon since your're getting the XBLA in the deal.  I like the visuals, the theme and the robot wars vibe from some of the multi player game modes.

I'm...not sure about how I feel.

I loved the start.  The graphics, the town, the physics, the writing, the music.  All great.
Then I got into the first challenge world and I was like :O at all the cool ramps and half-pipes and stuff to do everywhere.
Then I started trying to do the challenges and ummm...they were frustrating because the starting vehicles control awful.  I wasn't having any fun doing them and it was just retrying them until I got it right.  Maybe later on with good vehicles that are precise it's awesome?

I'm confused.  I like everything except the challenges, but I think that's what the entire game is: dozens of challenges.

I was really enjoying this until I actually had to do a mission.

Yeah, this.

I wasn't going to bother, but good to know i made the right choice

It's really pretty though so worth a download.

My only graphical nitpick was what dark1x said in the TRU thread:  The low-res flickering shadows are getting annoying in games.  They need to figure out a new way to do shadows because you have a beautiful game and then what almost looks like graphical glitches over them occasionally when there's moving shadows.

Otherwise the graphics are awesooome.

Weird game.  Really pretty, exciting and funny to start with, but trying to do the missions is  ???
I want to explore the world and do stuff in it but not necessarily this stuff.  The vehicle creator does neat stuff and I don't mind using the vehicles, but it's kind of a pain to use.  Makes the game a big time sink if you wanna use it, which seems like the more rewarding way to go.  I dunno what to think.  I'll wait for some reviews and/or the bargain bin I guess  :-\

The demo's worth a download definitely, you could spend a looot of time on it.  I probably didn't do a quarter of the things I could in it... can you pick up more parts in showdown town?  I never did, so that might have been useful.

I thought it was fine technically, I just wasn't fan of the style of the style.  It's not ideal, but at least it's not near unplayable due to the graphics like Kameo is.

Actually, what they try to do is show you bog-standard boring ass missions lol. The actual gameplay mechanics - driving, running around, building vehicles, are excellent and a ton of fun, so are the graphics and the presentation. Then they take all that aaaannnddd... make you push a ball around? Knock some guys off some eyeballs? OK...

However even in these simple missions, tweaking your vehicle from one mission to the next made a HUGE difference both in challenge and fun factor. So as long as they come up with more creative shit to do as the game goes on, I think the game will be a keeper. At least for me.

Kameo had, and still does, some of the best next gen graphics to date.

I even think it looks better than Banjo.

I suppose because its sort of open world, they toned the normal mapping down a lot, but the textures don't look too great close up.

Kameo has the worst art direction of maybe any next gen game to date.  The over saturation of colors was just grotesque.  And I think Viva Pinata is probably the only Rare game series this gen that is both good artistically and technically.  PDZ and Kameo were nuts, Banjo seems to be better, but there are still some problems I have with it.

It seems classic Rare platformer design - vomit such a gigantic, garish, empty level that you never know where you are and end up walking (driving) a mile to get to anything (nothing).

I think the vehicle building will easily be the best part of this.  I would have liked a ton more of the building part because it was pretty boring otherwise.

::actual_LOL

I played most of the demo today, right on the heels of finishing the Mirror's Edge demo. Mirror's Edge is SO PRETTY. Not so much the people, but the colored lighting on the buildings is just so beautiful. So when I fired up the Banjo Kazooie demo, I felt like turning it off immediately.

Then I started messing around a bit, and realized it has (a) Legos and (b) cute-physics-toy tendencies.

Someone, please tell me it's crap. I was having a LOT of fun with it this morning, but my stack of games is like yay high (gestures a half meter off the floor with hands).
