The demo was boring but the actual mission was amazing :o

I didn't have much problem with the bumpers.

I thought I'd have issues with the default control mapping, but I didn't. The shoulder button control scheme works really well, even with bumper for jump

wasn't ps3 the lead platform? why does it look better on 360? :lol

and the controls were fine. must suck ass to convince yourself to buy the inferior console version.

Man I hope Sony hurries up with my PS3 repair.  I kinda like comparing big games like this.

Tried the X360 demo.  Still looks jaggy but less jaggy so maybe 2x AA?
Hated the control though, was getting much slower times with the X360 controller.  Who wants to play a game where the majority of commands are hitting LB while holding up on the analogue.  Far too cramped for comfort.  Should've switched jump to LT and slide to LB since you jump more than you slide.

If I had a decent spec PC I think I'd go for the PC version with a USB PS2 controller.

Yeah, 360 game looked slightly better (still jaggies and all that, just slightly less) and it could just be me, but the loading times also seemed to be a bit better.  And while you guys are fine with using the bumpers and all that, I had big time problems with it.  I'm sticking to getting it on the PS3, then picking it up on Steam when there is a sale.

Yeah, I actually like the LB/LR combo, because jump feels like a tappy-tappy move, whereas sliding is more of a long, sticking move by nature.

The jump/up button isn't just tapping.  When wall climbing/running you need to hold it to get more distance.

If there's a Steam release I'll probably get that.  I'll try the 360 demo and see how it feels.

The point of that is make the PS3 version comparable, not exactly superior.  Efforts to port from 360 to PS3 fail because it's porting from something simple to something complex and shit gets lost in the process.

The only place that jaggies were really nagging for me were on thin lines, like cable-esque things.  But heck, most of the time you are moving so fast that it's not noticeable at all.

I liked what I played, but I'm not sure how much I dug the controls mapped to the shoulder buttons and triggers.  The 360 shoulder buttons are the only other weak link on the 360 controller aside from the d-pad.

360 version is definitely cleaner -- maybe the kind of edge AA on static geometry that gears uses? dunno about the shoulder buttons, though...and i was kicking myself the last time i went iq over controller. eh, who cares. the point is that this game has preemptively killed the new tomb raider, which is still trying to imitate the last big thing in 3d platforming. the new prince game is dead too

PoP has never been about combat though.  It never should be.  The point of PoP is to platformer through deadly traps with occasional battle against a guard or in this case monster.

the graphics are beautiful but they do get a little jaggy at times.  still one of the best looking games this gen imo.

the controls are very technical and do pretty much everything different than any other FPS.  it's one of the better platformers I've played because every move just feels so perfect when you finally learn how to pull it off.  sucks about having to pre-order to get the time trial code though.

I wasn't bothered by any jagginess - it seemed very minimal and I didn't notice it while playing.  I really liked the LB/LT combo - I used my index finger for both though because I despise using four fingers (except for SSX).

Yeah, combat seems shitty, but everything else seems great.  Well, except for the prince being the exact same character as Nathan Drake or the character from Assassin's Creed (the future one).  I think them making the combat 1 vs 1 means it will be rare, which is a good thing.

time trial mode is FUCKING AWESOME, but some of the combinations of wall runs and wall jumps and tucks just require too much controller dexterity. it's like doing a difficult combo in a fighting game -- even if you know exactly what to do, you'll only get it right once every three times. i've got three stars on the first course, but the second is frustrating the hell out of me -- i've got to be missing at least one shortcut, and bypassing those stairs at the beginning is an epic pain in the ass

Cohen called it.

The hell? All I said was that lead platform doesn't necessarily mean anything in terms of quality, just a smarter development path. Again, you are the GOP of the console war.

Anyway, it's certainly humorous to see the common xtards declare Great Victory here. As if the version of Great Victory wasn't a jagged pile itself. But then again, Xtards are less refined and obviously can't be trusted to make judgment calls on the quality of anything, given their preference for a garbage system (with shit UI). So hey, maybe they really don't see any issues.

That particular move actually made the game feel too, er, gamey. It felt like it should have been an automatic motion.

I'm starting to think I'm going to have to wait for the PC version of ME (or just rent one of the console versions for now). It looks hot, but the idea of playing this without jaggies is becoming quite attractive. Any new info on PC release date?

That particular move actually made the game feel too, er, gamey. It felt like it should have been an automatic motion.

yeah, sequences of wall jumps can feel like abstract videogamey button gymnastics. i was thinking that they should either automate the wallturn or the tuck -- but there are certainly situations where you want to jump off a wall without turning, and there may be situations where you don't want to tuck (i.e. to fall slightly short on a jump and grab the ledge). and the relative lack of automation is one of the things i like about the game. so i'm just going to hope that it starts to feel more natural when you get used to it

edit: come to think of it, there's a situation right at the beginning of the second time trial where you don't want to tuck: if you tuck on the first walljump, you don't really have space to make the second walljump -- that little loss of momentum as you land is desirable

Yeah, I really wish that was in the game.  I wish I could also just watch someone elses run and learn from it.

actually, I thought it was pretty cool how I kept improving because I wanted to keep up with the ghost to learn the movements.  the most tense thing is hearing them doing actions at the exact same moment as you and just making sure not to choke.

Not sure which version to get though.  I like the shoulder buttons on the PS3 better, but I like the analog sticks better on 360.

For the time trial mode, I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that you can download ghosts and see their red "footprints".  they probably didn't put it in the demo for fear of giving it too much replayability.

I would also like online competitive races. Just have your competitor be the ghost so there's no bumping into each other. I would imagine racing against an actual person in ghost form would be more fun than against someones best run at that given time.

You can view their footprints in the demo. They aren't permanent, but they are there.
Though nothing can replace watching an actual ghost at different angles from the third person.

Hm. I do pretty much that. I do the wall jumps over the stairs, run along the edge of the building the make the big jump. THe only thing that's different is that I don't jump completely over the railing onto the big boxes with fans on it.

I'm betting if I do that I can probably get my time down to 45 because the way I do it takes about a second-half second longer.

PS3 version of Mirrors Edge also has better audio, so this is a plus.

Have faith run at full sprint, you can hear the difference.  Plus enviromental effects are more noticeable.

you can do that, but they can outrun you fairly quickly.  the foot steps also don't reveal a lot about what they were doing.

I changed the color spectrum of my 360 from expanded to intermediate and that seemed to work a bit to get a better image. After playing the PS3 version again it does have more jaggies but the HDMI seemed to give a better color spectrum, especially in shadows. Don't know how to fix this for 360, I just got PS3 settings for my TV from the avs forums and they're very good. The 360 settings seem like a small step down or it's the difference between VGA and HDMI.

edit: i should qualify -- i just don't really groove on platforming/parkour in first-person, it seems. it all seemed choppy and migraine-inducing, to me, and there weren't any cool "vertigo" moments in the demo, ala pure or hydro thunder. i also really, really dislike having jump/slide on the left shoulder buttons.

I like that you can turn the red off. It makes the game too obvious and "follow the red." This game is basically PoP in first person, which is pretty neat. I don't imagine the no gun achievement being hard to get, considering the guns are fucking useless.

The 360 settings seem like a small step down or it's the difference between VGA and HDMI.

please share the PS3 settings!

i have a HDMI 360 so might do a compare later. The PS3 demo IS a bit jaggy but OMG so fun.
Unless you have the same TV, I doubt they will do you much. Check the http://www.avsforum.com/ for a thread about your TV and look for optimized PS3 or Xbox 360 settings. It really did wonders for my PS3 and Blu-Ray image.
