Vol. 1 of Sandman is pretty boring. Every other volume is amazing.

:heartbeat Season of Mists & A Game of You  :heartbeat

Volume 1 has 24 Hours, you stupid slut.

Read it earlier today. Fuck awesome. IMO this volume seems rather episodic, with some hitting, others missing, and some being fuck awesome. The new artist who did that issue really impressed me. And the issue right after that one is awesome (Dee vs Morpheus).

24 Hours>>>Sound of Her Wings

both were great though but 24 Hours was insane.

Yeah, most of the other volumes are more arc-based.  2 of the volumes are collections of single issue stories, but the single issue stories are generally pretty great.

absolute sandman 4 is out this week

I know where my Christmas bonus is going

Sandman's good and I can always resell them - the Absolutes go out of print and increase in value immensely

I'll probably get vol2 later this weekend

The Dee/ruby arc was definitely more interesting than the stuff that came before it, ie Morpheus finding his sand bag and helm; although the journey to hell was badass. But I loved Dee breaking out of prison, killing a lady who helped him (pretty shocking) and then causing total carnage at the diner before confronting Morpheus.

I wish I could find that schadenfreude pic of Dee casually looking at the diner, bodies (and heads) sprawled on the ground and in the booths

Doll's House (vol 2) is motherfuck awesome.  It has one of the coolest characters evar in it.

I just got Abs Sandman 3 last week.  I'll be nabbing 4 on day 1.  Does anyone know if it includes Endless Nights?  Is that considered part of the official series?

I've been reading TDKR

...so yea, Miller sure does hate the academic librul crowd  :lol

I'm not a fan of the small frames. I understand it's supposed to create a sense of motion  but it serves to shrink the action for me.

Anyone check out that Bat-manga anthology yet? I saw it at Kinokuniya earlier today. Great packaging.

For those who don't know, a Batman manga was made by the creator of 8-Man in the 1960s.

Yeah, Miller's stuff is totally trashy. Have you gotten the second volume of Sandman yet?

Nope. I'm gonna finish TDKR first (which I rented from the library).

what do you guys think of Warren Ellis?  I liked Desolation Jones, but nothing else is jumping out at me...mostly because he has a ton of books out.

Read Transmetropolitan, Nextwave, his Authority (issues #1-12), and Crecy. Oh, and Planetary.

All good choices, except I've never heard of Crecy and am now wiki'ing furiously.

It's a big departure for Ellis. It's set in 1346, so he can't do his usual techno-fetishism routine, which is one of the reasons I like it. It's a nifty little history lesson with foul language and nice art.

crecy is one of the better things he's done.

What do you think of Batman's fat, farting self in TDKR Maurice? Do you like the dialogue?

Seems forced at times, although generally I like the way Batman is written. He's this dude who used to be unstoppable before getting older, and I like the fact that for the most part the book is devoid of any idiotic "this used to be easier in the old days!" talk, at least not to the extent of say Indy4. I like the idea of examining Batman from a psychological standpoint and admitting that he's pretty fucked up in the head. His villains are all like him in some way or another, and perhaps he doesn't kill them because he knows he's nothing without them; interestingly he (as Bruce Wayne) supports the release of Two-Face from prison although he knows Harvey is just as incurable as he is.

The various "point counter-point" news segments aren't too far off from current reality, and Miller seems just as comfortable writing Gordon as Batman.
