NEW YORK - Turning your clock back on Sunday may be good for your heart.

Swedish researchers looked at 20 years of records and discovered that the number of heart attacks dipped on the Monday after clocks were set back an hour, possibly because people got an extra hour of sleep.

But moving clocks forward in the spring appeared to have the opposite effect. There were more heart attacks during the week after the start of daylight saving time, particularly on the first three days of the week.

Japan HAD daylight savings, but did away with it. The mind boggles. Most of the year I'm woken by the sunlight at 5 am and it's dark by the time I get home at 6.30. I don't understand what the objection to this could possibly be (it sure wasn't heart attack incidence rates).

I dunno, sleep research is notoriously wishy washy.  There are other studies that say living on ~5 hours of sleep a night will leave you with a longer lifespan.  Ultimately, the takeaway is that we know abso-fucking-lutely nothing about sleep.  Even when you go to take a sleep study and they wire you up, they just compare your brain activity to the average.  They don't really know what is specifically going on; they have not deduced much aside from figuring out that your brain turns off most of your muscles when you sleep so you do not physically act out what you are doing in dreams, which would be disastrous.  A defect in that mechanism is why sleepwalking happens.

da vinci did the 15 minutes of sleep every 4 hours thing according to some records, but most scientists think he did it for certain periods of time as that really taxes the mind. I mostly put the article up cause SHOCK VALUE

I haven't had more than 5 hours of sleep on any night in the past few weeks. I just can't fall asleep and night, yet I can't stay awake during the day.

On my bad insomnia weeks ill get 2-4 hours of sleep and I am unable to take naps during the day. Im just not a middle of the day sleeper. Thankfully i've dealt with it for the past six months so im usually used to it so I dont get as frantic anymore. This week has been ok tho, maybe its cause I OWN FALLOUT 3 FOR PC!

Fallout 3 can get addicted since even if you think "I'm gonna do this one sub mission then quit" you'll probably run across 10 things before getting to that sub mission that will be interesting enough to veer off to check out.
