don't hate! I'm in the beta and it provides minutes of wasted time.

The only real thing worth looking forward to in home are those flash-like arcade games to play.  Only the Uncharted 2D one in the Uncharted 'game space' is actually good, but the potential (keyword here) for other games to follow could be interesting -- of course there has to be a bad to this, and it's that like real life only one person can play on these virtual arcade machines at once.  This is the actual situation you're looking at in the game: you and a couple other people are waiting for a guy to leave an arcade machine, then as soon as he does, you all have to bum rush the cabinet in hopes of playing.  If you are unable to get to the machine first, you're back to waiting.  WHY?

Will I have to download home or is it completely optional?

I still wish they would just scrap this whole Home thing and focus on a more streamlined online interface.

I'm sick to death of this focus on avatars, though.  The NXE coming up soon looks fantastic in every way EXCEPT the f*cking avatars.  It cheapens the look of the interface.  Hopefully they can be disabled.  Home seems even worse.  I blame Nintendo.

seriously, when people on the very early roll out told me about this, i howled with laughter.

how stupid can they get?

It is really something you need to experience.  It feels like a big elaborate joke you're in on, almost like someone from Sony is watching you guys and laughing.

You have to wait for lanes to open to play bowling?

Do you have to pay a $2 microtransaction to rent virtual bowling shoes for your avatar?  :lol :-\

I bet sony will let you put an arcade machine in your house to alleviate that problem.

actually, a better idea might be for us to stand infront of all the arcade games , not playing them, just standing in front of them.

They updated it to 1.0 today (out of beta I think).  I went back in check it out and there are some improvements, pretty much still pointless.  The dumbest shit is that they didn't fix the arcade cabinet issue where only one can play at once.  And there is actually a good arcade game this time, it's just an arcade score based version of Echochrome.  It was actually pretty packed for the most part, well, except the gaf clubroom.

this is the home experience in a nutshell

I'm pretty sure Wollan was the neogaf 1 club leader (there had to be two since the first one filled up).  To be fair, he was in the clubroom because he needed to accept new people applying, and if he didn't accept my application right away I probably would haven ever checked out the bumpin' neogaf club room.  I'm still amazed by the bad choices and pointlessness of home.  Sometimes have improved from the beta, like you're now able to download the new locations in the background as you walk around, then a message pops up asking if you want to go there.  Before you had to wait at a loading screen for new areas to load.

The worse part is that the one featured that I was somewhat interested in with home, the game launching thing, didn't seem to work.  This doesn't make sense because the beta let me select it.

And last time I tried it the entire place was empty, but even now that it's packed, the other difference is that people are now talking using voice chat all the time.  Doesn't stop it from feeling like a pointless and lifeless experience.  It also makes arcade machines more difficult to get onto...still the entire idea behind 1 person to an arcade machine is ridiculous

The CLUBMASTA needs to be physically present in the room to accept new members? lol

How many people can be in a club?

Grecco

This sounds so awfull. Why the heck would anyone want to play this?

cool breeze

  • Senior Member
I don't know if he needed to be in the club room to accept people or not, but he was there, so it could have been a coincidence.  No clue how many people can be in a club, I'm not about to go back in to check, but there were about 3 people in that club room besides me and Wollan and the 'current member' list had around 20 or so (before it was full).

Also, the actual home launch icon is no longer with other games and now right above the playstation life item in the internet menu with it's own icon.  They also seemed to remove the two game spaces they had up (uncharted and far cry 2) to, I'm assuming, fit them for 1.0.

The only useful feature is that it acts as a party mode, but this feature isn't up yet.  Basically you can start up a game and others can join in from home, you all launch the game together and go straight into a game, then when you quit out you're back in the club house and can move right into another game.

I got my home invite, loaded it up and it said "HOME TAKES UP 3GIGS, PROCEED?" to which I immediately quit and went and played RB2 instead.

I'm not downloading 3gigs to try out a terrible app.

can't be stressed enough that home is a failure....  if it was ready at launch, it would garner some oohs and aaaahs, but Sony should just drop it and suck up their losses.  Nobody will ever be interested in an elaborate 3D menu.

Isn't this the whole point of home?

So, does Home still allow you to use the features without actually stepping into the Home application? When they announced it, they declared that the virtual world would be an optional feature, with all the community features available from the XMB. Is this still true?

cool breeze

  • Senior Member
So far, no.  The quickest you can do it now is jump to the game, have your friends jump to your place (you can teleport anywhere if you want to avoid walking), then start up the game menu through the gui.  No quick menu in the PS3 XMB.

you mean like NXE party mode?

Worse (for the most part) and better.  Worse in that you guys can't talk while playing different games, better in that it supports more people.

Isn't this the whole point of home?

Apparently the point of home is to find friends to play with, which is basically a useless feature if you post on a message board, but yeah...Well, that and wasting time doing other boring tasks there.  It's actually part that whole networking thing and half a glorified lobby, but since hte lobby aspect isn't there, it's just not appealing at all.

I guess having more people is neat. But not a need. The fact that you can do that shit now. On Xbox when its taken Sony years to do is embarassing.

Sonys biggest issue is they keep adding fluff, crap, garbage to home. Home spaces. Arcade machines, Places to form "warhawk strategies" instead of the basic stuff people want. Which is what Microsoft did.

you're really not missing anything.  The only fun bit now is playing Echochrome in the arcade, and the Uncharted 2D game was also fun, but they took that out since the Uncharted game space isn't there.

home is such a waste.  I know people were saying things like Eight Days was canned because it didn't look good, but from I could tell it seemed interesting, and when Sony continues to fund home I can only wonder if they have a good sense of what quality is.

Is there a guy sitting there yelling about how he's a socom fanboy and asking for people to play with? that guy was awesome.  He's like the 1% of PS3 owners who likes home.
