I think home characters would be more like that, basically just virtual real people...boring and stiff. Miis aren't bad because it's like Nintendo's goal was to make the most bare bones custom character to use. Making a Mii is to have it look somewhat remotely close to what you might look like. Avatars make me think they sat down and thought to make some hybrid between a Mii and a real person, a bad idea to start with, then made it worse by getting Rare to design them.
