and as much as I'd like to say everyone is fucking with you about MGS4...it's pretty awful.  MGS3 set the bar really high with gameplay.  All of MGS4's areas that require stealth put together, cause shit is all broken up, probably total 1/4 of MGS3's map.

MGS4 is shit, pure and simple.  If you strip away all the non-interactive BS (and god knows there's a ton of it) all you're left with is an hour or two's worth of gameplay...maybe.  Hell, there was more gameplay going on in GAF's MGS4 OT than there is in the actual game.  I've never been a fan of MGS games before outside of the original but MGS4 made me appreciate MGS2 and MGS3 a hell of a lot more just because those games actually gave you something to do other than pressing L2 during a movie.

My PS3 has only frozen a few times. Troubling, but it's been going for two years, which is a good deal more than can be said for either of my previous Xbox 360s. This one still works, but it sounds like a busy intersection. And it's UI sucks shit. It has really made multiplatform purchases difficult. Even though it hasn't happened in a while, I worry about the PS3 freezing up. And the 360 is so loud and has such an obnoxious UI that I don't want anything to do with it unless I really have to.

I too have had a few crashes with the PS3 recently.  They're only minor problems like the controller not responding all of a sudden but I never had those problems before. 

It's probably due to all the firmware updates in the last few months.   

That is probably the most annoying thing about the PS3.  Any mildly tech knowledgeable person would know that frequent 100MB firmware updates is not a good idea.  

Btw, why do you care about UIs so much?  You're a PC gamer so you should be used to user unfriendly gaming UIs.

I've noticed this happening more and more of as of late; the controller going out of wack, or not responding for a few seconds. I've assumed it was the controller being old and dumb that caused this, but I'm not sure.

Those UIs don't extend to every part of the system, though. I've disliked the Dashboard since day 1, because it feels rigid, sluggish, claustrophobic, and because every expansion has happened inside that rigid framework. At least they are working on a replacement, but it's honestly amazing how someone could have thought that such a design was a good idea. Sony has its own issues with the PS3 software, but the UI architecture and speed shits all over the Dashboard one. Which sort of gives the PS3 a life beyond just a games machine; media browsing and playing is a breeze on the PS3.

To each is his own, I guess.  The big reason I've favored the 360 in multi platform purchases has been the controller and the lack of mandatory installs.  I agree that the UI is an abomination, but that's getting an overhaul, thankfully.  The PS3 is a good system; it just never lived to the hype that Sony generated for it back in 2005.  It lacks JRPGs, one its predecessors strong suits and the online is still terrible, look at SOCOM and LBP launches.

I played some Uncharted yesterday. It's fun. More fun than Gears of War at least. I played about and hour and a half, which is shocking because with Gears and many other third person shooters I can only play it for 30 minutes before I get bored.

The graphics in Uncharted are unreal. I think my inner graphic whore (which rarely ever comes out) has been satisfied. The characters seem interesting too. It's pretty fun but I can't help that I'd get more out of it if I had a dual shock 3. =/

I didn't think Uncharted out-geared Gears.  the set pieces in Gears are so much more interesting and the guns feel better.  Uncharted lost a lot of points with me for having floaty physics and guns that didn't feel heavy enough.  It may have been the mushy bumpers causing that.

Getting a DS3 won't change your experience much with Uncharted.

Rumble was just an afterthought in Uncharted since the DS3 didn't exist yet.  MGS4 has nice rumble effects though.  

Honestly, I hate both the Sixaxis and DS3.  The DS2 was perfect for every genre except racers and FPSes.  

But now that Sony has switched the bottom buttons to squishy triggers, their controllers just suck for anything that needs more than 6 buttons, which is like every modern game.

I wish I could use my 360 controller on my ps3. That's really the only bad side for me when it comes to choosing ps3 versions over 360 versions. I don't want to deal with red ring or paying for online that MS will fuck me over with like they did last time. The mandatory installs thing is REALLY dumb though.

I got a ps3 for Yakuza 3, Kenzan, MGS4, FFXIII, Versus XIII, Valkyria, and the wealth of psn games. Those should satisfy me just fine.
