I'd like to avoid any partisan name calling but who I am kidding.  Let's talk about who you are voting and why this Tuesday.

I'll start.

1. I'm voting for Barack Obama because he represents a new generation of leader--optimistic, inspiring, and dynamic.  Frankly, McCain reminds of a cranky old man, who appeals to cranky old men.  Call me an ageist if you want, but even Ronald Reagan, one of older president to take office, had displayed more vitality and life than McCain.

2.  Also, I think that Barack Obama can help our image overseas, which was tattered by the arrogant Bush Administration.  That administration fostered obvious contempt for the international community, rejecting important shows of international solidarity like the Kyoto Treaty and waging a unilateral war on an extremely weak country under a dangerous pre-emptive war precedent.  McCain unpopularity throughout the international community has been evident, according to the polls.  Many see him as a continuation of Bush.

3.  McCain choice of Sarah Palin was extremely troubling to me.  She cannot be a commander of chief as far as I am concerned.  Her lack of knowledge in key areas necessary for successful leadership of our country is troubling.  I also see her as a continuation of the anti intellectualism that has been pervasive the last eight years in the executive branch.

4.  "It's the economy, stupid." Carville's word ring more true today than ever.  McCain has been honest about his lack of knowledge in economic matters, however, his economic team is comprised of people who have supported the massive deregulations that have gotten us in this mess.   Obama's advisers of Warren Buffett, Richard Rubin, Paul Volcker, and Lawrence Summers, come from a broad range of backgrounds and their philosophies have been grounded on economic principles not ideology.

5.  The Supreme Court.  I consider myself a centrist on most issueds, and as such, cannot fathom what type of decisions would be reached if McCain continues his predecessor's choices for Supreme Court justices.  We are looking at possibly three vacancies in the next 4 to 8 years.  And if the recent appointees are any indication of the type caliber of judges we can expect, I would be very fearful for our justice system.

Sorry for the long post.  But I wanted us to talk intelligently about who we are voting for.  Please let this not divulge into a debate about who is best or who is worst.  We need more serious political discussion without the WWF atmosphere that has penetrated political discourse.

I already voted for Barack the Terrorist, Kay the Atheist and Bev the Corrupt here in NC.  My vote is in the bank, baby!  Hopefully it gets counted.  I voted for a straight Democratic ticket, including judges and other "non-partisan" posts because I believe the Republican party must be crushed, driven before me and I must hear the lamentation of their women.  That is good.

President: Osama bin Barack al-Jihad

Voted for him mostly because he had yet to ever prove the legitimacy of his ideas.  His statements amounted to little more than "We need to do this..."  Well, no shit, sherlock.  When it came time to say what that was, his plan was then to bring up Ayers.  Let's not forget Palin who might be the first VP candidate with absolutely nothing going for her.  Even Cheney was somewhat intelligent, although evil.  Palin is both evil and stupid.

I didn't vote for any other choices worth mentioning.  My votes all went to incumbents except for the House, where she is losing by about 20 points at the moment and never had a chance to begin with.

Barack Hussein Sadam bin Chavez Kim Jong Obama III

edit:  Obama because I've liked the man ever since 2004 and had been following what he was doing ever since then.  He started to get progressively more interesting and started to make a fuckton of sense.  I believe in what he speaks about, and he's very inspiring and intellectual.  It's about time we revert back to having an intellectual president who can hold standing in meeting with other foreign leaders.  I dig his health care plan and his economic crisis plan, and his tases make a fuckload more sense to me than what we have now.

He's a great man and an ever greater speaker, and hopefully he'll be an even greater still president.

Def. Obama - I like his energy plan, tax cuts for the middle class (I have no sympathy for the dirty richers getting taxed more), he is a fantastic and inspiring speaker, I like how he wants to pull out of Iraq. Been following him since I first heard of him in 2004 and said to myself "that is gonna be the first black president, one day". Voted for him in the primary. And will vote for him on Tuesday before heading to work.

I put it off until the last day and then apparently my ballot wasn't postmarked in time so I'm not registered, either. It wouldn't matter since I'm in California and Obama is pretty much a given here anyway, but I can't vote against Prop 8 now either :-\

I'm voting  for Obama.

I'm voting because the idea of rape victims paying for their own rape kits is appalling to me. Because I'm pro-choice, but believe education is important in reducing unplanned and unwanted pregnancies.

I'm voting because I believe in our right to bear arms, but also feel that no one should be able to go into a store and walk out that same day with a handgun.

I'm voting because I'm the daughter of a war veteran, and I want our troops to come home. I'm voting with hope to get us out of a war that wasn't ours to begin with.

I'm voting because I believe that love is love. I believe love knows no boundaries of gender, race, ethnicity, income, or physical ability. I believe people of every sexual orientation should be given the same rights already given to me and my future husband.

I'm voting because we need better health care and education.

I'm voting because I don't believe the Bible was intended as a means to govern a country.

I'm voting because I want my children to grow up in a great country like I did.

I'm voting because it matters.

Copied-and-pasted that from my LJ.

Obama, cause the modern GOP is so consistently opposed to my values that I've voted straight Democratic for federal office since I turned 18 and will probably keep it up until there's a major realignment.

That Obama has a significantly better temperament and intellect than his opponent is just icing on the cake.  I'd vote for some complete mediocrities if I knew they'd be beholden to the Democratic party and its related interest groups, rather than the GOP.

I'm voting for John McCain because he's the American president America needs right now. Obama is nice, well read, he speaks well but he hasn't been 100% honest about his ties to various shady organizations and characters. Selecting a president is like hiring someone, and I don't think Obama's resume is impressive, nor do I think he is the type of person I'd want to be representing me. Would you hire someone who has ties to domestic terrorists and is sympathetic with radical groups like ACORN?

John McCain is right on all the major issues. If we leave Iraq, Iran will fill the void we left causing major problems for our security, and more importantly Israel's. He actually fought in a war, he knows how to win. On the economy McCain may be similar to Bush, but we must remember that the democrats have been muddling things for the last two years. And even before they gained control there was 911, which severely injured our economy. With those two things in mind I think Bush should be praised for steadying the ship. It's been tough but we haven't tipped over. Who better to hand over the steer to than a former Navy man?

I can't believe how sexist the coverage has been concerning Sarah Palin. She's far more qualified to be president than Obama, who spent most of his senate time running for president. She has executive experience, her state plays a major role in the energy issue, and she'd bring a beautiful American family to the White House.

We'd actually respect your choice if you explained it to us, Mups. Well, I would, at least.

I already voted for Obama (absentee). I feel that Obama will do a great deal to improve our image around the world, and I like his stance on health care, education, enivronmental and economic issues. I don't agree with the beliefs of the Republican party, and McCain's erratic behavior frightens me.

serious:

I'm voting for Obama because his views fall in line with mine, and I love the fact that he's been against the Iraq war from the beginning. He's the most principled, honorable person running right now, he surrounds himself with very smart people (on both sides of the aisle) who will tackle tough issues with level heads, etc. I have great respect for him and I think it would be amazing to have a president you can look up to and be proud of.

would you like a moderate's take?

despite my low opinion of the Dems, I support Obama:

- many of his issues on 'moral' issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc are not satisfactory, but better than mccain
- many of his issues on 'practical' policy-wise issues, i support or at least prefer to mccain, who i really doubt knows what the fuck is going on.
-,

if there is one major political entity i despise more than the dems, its the reps.  Slightly related, i still love mccain but despise what he has done:

- "Republicans came to change washington, and washinton changed reps."  Guess what John ? You came to change Washington, and Washington changed you.  Months, nay years before Nov 4, 2008.  I guess desperate people do desperate things, huh? I guess sometimes, you jsut cant help but let others compromise your core ideals, huh, john?  Just ask Hillary, she knows.
- I don't believe in an Oligarchy.  I believe that with teh exception of phenomenal circumstances - like having performed really well - we should have presidents of different parties at least every few cycles.  Especiially when that incumbent candidate AND party has performed so miesrably, in which case, CHANGE TEH PARTY IN POWER NAO!
- i have grown tired as i've watched the Rep party, teh grand ole party, allow themselves to be polluted by the fundies.

And now, even many conservatives who are disgusted by the GOP's turn to shittiniess are too much of a coward to be honest with themselves and call them out on said shittiniess, by not supporting or making excuses for Mccain or Palin's greiveious deeds.  (I have no problem with cons not voting for Obama, conversly).

PS: Note I have not used "change" or "hope" as an argument.
PPS: god my toucphpad is fucking bugging on me.
