Any suggestions of stupid things that I can tell her to ask him? She's already well aware of my hatred of the Wii and how it's killing gaming as we know it.

Ask them about what drives their decision when bringing over titles or publishing.

e.g. why not Mother 3, why not X game and instead focusing on WiiTard games. Considering their success why not branch to that niche market, similar to Atlus or Aksys and smaller companies.

While I was kidding, it would be fucking hilarious to see these questions from my blond midwestern non-gamer wife. It would probably floor him.

I wonder if I could sit in and "audit" the class for the night.

yeah I definitely fall into the 'gasming over wii before it came out but now pissed on by and untrusting of nintendo category.

the only consistently good developer now at nintendo is retro.  A realistic question I guess you could ask how nintendo treats it's second party studios versus the internal development teams as far as freedom and so on.

The class is about Japanese business practices, and I doubt she'll ask, but I'll run them by her.

Please don't post this at GAF.

Ask him how they knew HD gaming was going to be such a colossal failure and money pit, and whether he ever dives into big piles of money.

Get her to ask him "What's the deal with Wii Music?  I mean really?"  Get him to admit that it is total garbage and only meant to cater to the LCD.  Make sure she's persistent because I'm sure he will pretend like Wii Music is anything other than crap.

Or business wise, ask if their Blue Ocean Strategy will work for them in the long run or if they've even considered how this plan will work out for them in the long run.  Instead of their legacy titles like Mario and Zelda, they are now being replaced by Wii Sports and Wii Music.  How might this plan work for them 5 years from now?  10 years?  Will they need to reinvent themselves because BOS will eventually turn against them?

That's a good question, definitely ask about this. Cohen's question is also very excellent.

Who says that Mario and Zelda are being replaced?  There seems to be no lack of Mario titles this gen.

Picked my wife up from class tonight. She said Reggie was "kind of an asshole," but still enjoyed hearing him talk. He talked about that with the Wii Nintendo wanted to try and make videogames enjoyable/accessible to the masses like they were during the NES/SNES, and that they got really lucky with their regained success in the home console market. They must have talked about Brain Training, because all of a sudden she really wants it for the DS. There was a 30 minute Q&A session, but she is pretty tired and already went to bed, so I haven't heard what was asked.

NoA brought a couple Wii Sports demo stations for the class to play with. She also snagged me a 2008 Annual Report booklet, which I'm now thumbing through.

I should also note that my wife does not share my gaming world view. She views Nintendo's business strategy as being hugely successful, she doesn't give a shit what us hardcore gamers think.

Well even as a gamer that hates Nintendo's direction, I can see their business strategy has been hugely successful. It's not a gender-specific revelation or anything.

Oh, I totally agree. They're doing a superb job. The rift between my wife and I on this is that she really doesn't care that the people who got Nintendo where they are in the first place are pretty much being ignored. We don't matter compared to their new target market.

I used to be all over the Wii too, but it's just inadequate amongst its peers nowadays. Leaving out HD may not have affected gamers like Himuro, but it is going to be biting them in the ass for the second half of this generation, as far as the core gamers are concerned. They have their new market, their huge profits, and all that, but I think they've lost a lot of fans too.

yeah, basically the reason why the Wii sucks is it has no fucking games to interest anyone that is actually interested in gaming. I had fun with Prime 3, Galaxy, NMH and Excite Truck. But 4 games over 2 years is really no fucking good
