When did Gamestop start forcing pre-orders?

They did this with Force Unleashed and now it looks like Killzone and GOW3.

Picking up Resistance 2 (paid in full, btw):

GS: Ok, I'm going to put your deposit down on God of War for you.
Me: Um, no. Don't want it.
GS: Ok, then I'll just put you down for Killzone. That's going to be the best game on any system next year.
Me: No, don't want it. Just want to pick up my game.
GS: Fine, you won't be able to buy a copy then since it'll be sold out. (says the guy standing in front of about 10 Resistance 2 LEs and three times that many regular copies; none of which are reserved).

I went to Bestbuy at lunch and saw a huge load of R2.

Only reason I had it pre-ordered was because it was completely paid for with trade-ins about a month ago. Can't do that at Best Buy.

so you paid for the game but he refused to give it to you until you pre-ordered another game?

He was going to take the money I had on Resistance 2 and put it on some other game and basically charge me for R2 a second time.

oh, every place does that. See, some people work in retail, and during a bad economy, retail becomes like a shark tank. You cant help but expect that kind of desperate pre-order crap at a gamestop, their jobs ride on numbers.

So then what happened after that? Did you meekly give up? Did you push over a magazine rack?

The only magazine rack this place has is the is Gameinformer ad on the counter.

Here's how it should go down...

Clerk: "Well if you don't preorder we can't guarantee you a copy and you might not get one."

Me: "Not here. You should have included that at the end. Not my fault you can't order enough. That's one less sale for you and one more for Best Buy right across the street. That's assuming that I don't preorder from Amazon with their free shipping and no tax, though. Either or, you're fucked anyways."

I was in a group full of FELONS and we all joked that the employees in the Gamestop on Nicholasville Road in Lexington were worse.

Bloodwake will attest, they are fucking CROOKED. Right up until you want them to be.

If you're wondering, they wouldn't take a POUND of Mercer county's finest green and a bottle of liquor of their choice in return for selling me Mass Effect early. Fuckers.
