Chrono Trigger for DS
« on: November 11, 2008, 11:17:56 AM »
OMG OMG This game is gonna be great!! Chrono Trigger!!! for DS!!

I laugh at all the fuckers who spent $150 for a portable 15 year old console. fucking dumb asses eat it up to like a bunch of feggits at GAF. Oh Chrono Trigger, no real gamer hasn't played that game 50000 times already. "Game of the Forever"

I'd probably pay $20 for it, but $40 is just crazy.

Oh. Still, you're being a bit silly about the situation. Let people do what they want with their money.

There's no way in hell I'm paying 40$ for an enhanced SNES port. I usually wait till SE games are 20$ before buying them but I'll most likely wait until this is even lower than 20$.

Maybe it'll be like Front Mission DS (also a SNES port) and it'll lower to 20$ in just a few months.

Ehhh, I'd rather spend $40 for this than for the majority of games that come out nowadays... even though I've played the original so many times.

Can't wait to get this.  Screw you haters.

Does there have to be a complaint thread for nearly every remake that comes out now?  Ahh well, I'll enjoy it again.  Haven't played it since the late 90s but I still listen to the soundtrack relatively often.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger is my favorite video game soundtrack of all time aside from Wip3out.

I won't be getting this.  Even if I had a DS.  Fuck paying full price for remakes.

Fixed.

Remakes are things like FFIVr or soon DQVIr.  Remakes can be worth the money if they provide a fairly different/improved experience.

Ports  :yuck

what about me, someone who never tried it in hopes of a proper remake (too bad this one isn't) does it deserve the full price?

BUY A SNES

But yeah, ports are fine if you haven't played the original and worth real $$.  That's actually the audience they are made for in the first place.  I enjoyed the ports of Tales of Eternia/Phantasia on PSP since I hadn't played the originals.  Same with Princess Crown.

don't you feel that this is SE's way to see if there's still interest in CT?

they'll see how this one performs then decide whether they create a true sequel or not. if so I'm supporting this one by buying it!

:pirate is the only real way to go for Chrono Trigger.

You won't get many gaffers to admit it but most of them who talk about the game pirated it.

Wait for an actual remake if you want to shell out money for this.

Happily buying this.  I'd feel bad about it, but there are shitheads out there that actually gave Sony the thumbs-up for selling a $500 chunk of hubris, so I feel I'm comfortably the lesser of evils as usual.

Same.  I never owned the SNES cart.  I borrowed it from a friend.  Plus, I'm in no way going to rebuy a SNES and a SNES copy of CT and hook it up to my entertainment center.  This will be actually cheaper.

I emulated this when I played it (ten years ago already), so I'll happily buy the DS version. I enjoy the game and want to pay for it, but I don't want to pay some shithead eBay collector for it.

Handprints :P  Though smoking a blunt while taking that pic would've made it a better photo for sure.

Is that a good thing?  My monitor is ollllld, but I do all my gaming/movie-watching using tv->out to my hdtv so I've never felt the need to upgrade it.  It's good enough for internet, porn, and peggle.

Yes, but it's pretty good all the same.  A solid 8/10.  Main flaw is battles other than bosses are too easy and pointless, but I guess that's most RPGs.

The sequel, Chrono Cross for PS1 is more flawed (battle system is cool but makes non-bosses even more pointless, story is cool but a mess) but also still good, a semi-solid 7/10

They're pretty different, it's not like one of them is just the other +50% more goodness/badness.  Most people who hate CC seem to have been offended it wasn't a clone of the first game, which is weird since Square sequels have always tended to take their own path away from the originals, you'd think they'd know the drill by then.  They have different strengths and weaknesses, I just think CT comes out somewhat ahead overall.

the chrono cross battle system was awesome

hey want to revive your teammate? too bad, you already did that once.

i kinda liked the matching 3 elements in a row for more effectiveness aspect though, forget what they called that

god forbid we introduce a little strategic resource management into an RPG's battles.  they'll take my right to spam the same attack/healing spells over and over from my cold dead MP pool
