Japbore - the band Boris

Anyone know them? They're opening for Nine Inch Nails tonight. Listening to some of their stuff on Last.fm and they sound sort of like a Japanese Smashing Pumpkins.

:rock :rock BORIS :rock :rock

Definitely see them. They're definitely into the psychedelic thing, but they've also got some pretty hard and raw metal going on. They change their style almost every album or so.  They're great live - their lead guitarist is a tiny, adorable woman who completely shreds, the lead singer uses a double-necked guitar/bass, and the drummer is a madman. He wore a shiny white jumpsuit with an open jacket when I saw them. :rock Oh, and they rock live. They bring their entire pedal and effect setup with them, and it's pretty massive.

Deerhunter were pretty cool. I saw them when NIN played here. I'd never heard of them before the show, but I definitely need to check out their albums.

My favorite Boris-related project is their collaboration with Michio Kurihara on "Rainbows".  Highly recommended.

I got Microcastle from a friend a while ago, and it has since been in heavy rotation in my cd collection.

Definitely the best one.  Did you get Weird Era Cont. as well?  It has some pretty excellent stuff on it.

I never understood the appeal of a moonlanguage band when you can't understand it. It screams virgin.

Boris is fucking awesome.  Crazy they're opening up for NIN, but I guess Trent Reznor is in to catching the underground hotness for opening acts these days.

some individual songs resemble the pumpkins, but their live show is more about their longer, heavier tracks.  they're really not like the pumpkins at all...they're a metal band with some more melodic tendencies.

Aren't there legions of people around the world who listen to American and English musicians' music and don't understand it either?  Doesn't matter with music.

One of my favorite bands is the German Reggae-Dancehall group Seeed (I think they broke up though).  I don't know what the hell they are saying in the German verses but I love it anyway.  Great stuff.
