Seattle Nears Precipitation Record

SEATTLE -- This city known for gray skies and frequent drizzle is close to breaking its own wet record.

On Sunday, as thousands of people ran and walked in the Seattle Marathon, a chilly rain left 0.8 inches of precipitation, bringing the total for the month to a near-record 15.08 inches.

The all-time record for precipitation in a month in Seattle is 15.33 inches in December 1933.

With December just a few days away and cold and slightly drier weather forecast, it was uncertain whether snow flurries and rain in the forecast would be enough to break the record.

Naeema Cushmeer, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said breaking the record would be "a little tricky ... a hit-and-miss type of thing." The forecast was for mostly cold, relatively dry weather with a chance of snow flurries Monday evening and Tuesday and rain unlikely before Wednesday.

Rainstorms this month raised the total for November to 11.63 inches at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which broke the old record for November of 11.62 inches, set in November 1998.

Like PA, Ohio gets tons of that, Toxic.

Also, when I visited Seattle, I was told that unless it's under unusual circumstances (like this year), Seattle really doesn't get any more annual rainfall than, say, NYC.

no, I was born in arizona and learned to hate the oppressive sun. It gets sunny out here once in a while, and once in a while is enough. Overcast ftw. Nothing like being out on an overcast day without the fucking sun in my eyes giving me a migraine.

lol Arizona. When I went there (Phoenix) it was like 115, holy shit. You breathe in and your mouth damn near completely dries up. Flagstaff was much cooler obviously.

New York gets more annual rainfall than Seattle, as does a lot of the East coast, but that doesn't stop everyone from thinking that's it rains 24/7 up here. Whatever it takes to keep all the Californians away, I guess.
