dragonball z: infinite world impressions

all comparisons are in regards to budokai 3, current benchmark for dbz games and which is what this game is a remake of.

:)
- minigames between some of the story fights, like trying to catch bubbles in the kai's planet, aren't as lame as "minigame" suggests
- fights are faster and overall the game controls better
- most attacks are cancelable into supers, instead of being usable only after canned combos
- command list shows the property of each move in a combo (juggle, chargeable, unblockable, etc)
- more characters
- new moves (dashing, new hyper mode, secondary throws)
- cutscenes in story mode

:(
- some useless characters like android 19 where removed
- no new stages, according to gamefaqs
- doesn't use the show's soundtrack
- dragon rush removed, though no one used it anyway
- so far, all secondary throws seem to be the same
- no tournament mode - big wtf here
- worse opening i've seen in a dbz game
- doesn't work with hdloader

:-\
- hyper mode has been changed so that your character isn't tired after using it and teleporting no longer consumes energy during it. the problem is that you can't fight someone in hyper mode without it, since they can just teleport out of attacks without any cost and only charge attacks/throws can knock them down. you also regain more energy by hitting the opponent in hyper mode, which means if you opponent gets to it before you do, consider yourself fucked
- dashing seems useless so far. it'd be good if you could cancel an attack to dash outside of a super instead of wasting energy to teleport, but i haven't been able to do it so far
- i think the capsule system has changed though i haven't been able to check it out to be sure

Good to know, considering how badly I was burned with Burst Limit. It looked so nice argh. Least Ultimate Ninja Storm for ps3 is good. Definitely has better fights than Rise of a Ninja, which may have all the cutscenes and voices but obnoxious timed platforming and annoying fights.

I still have yet to play anything better than Hyper Dimension and Super DBZ.  For sheer amounts of characters and fanboyishness, nothing beats Tenkaichi Budokai 3 IMO.

Screw the Budokai-style games.  I still feel quite burned by Burst Limit too.

I was lured by hi def cel shading. Ultimate Ninja Storm makes up for it tho. The fights look so awesome- CyberConnect knows I wanna have FUN, not spend time in a fight trying to do stupid dual analog gang signs before the boss punches me in the face. Im still getting Broken Bond cause I heard the combat was fixed a little.

Yeah, Burst Limit was a let down.  I enjoyed it, just not as much as previous DBZ games.

And to be honest, I'm pissed off that they aren't continuing the Tenkaichi style of gameplay in next gen.  It could potentially be awesome.

Maybe they will.  Tenkaichi is not from the same developers as Budokai; Spike made it.  It's funny; I was let down by Burst Limit, sold it and tried out Sparking Meteor (Tenkaichi 3).  Despite being on Wii/PS2 it has some detail that Burst Limit does not and SHITLOADS of characters.  I can even have a fight between Goku from Dragonball and Arale from Dr. Slump, that alone makes it rock.

catching bubbles > tenkaichi + super dbz

super dbz was dumb. you had to play as the characters to unlock their moves, when the game was supposed to be more of an arcade fighter. there wasn't enough to the game to keep you interested in playing to unlock everything, while fighting with the incomplete characters was lame. if they had 2 versions of each character with the different moves and made one of them secret, it would've worked much better.

tenkaichi sucks. mash mash mash

Super DBZ is amazing unless you bought it solely for a 'Dragon Ball Z' game instead of a good fighting game.

Yeah, I bought Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii and played it a lot.  Much better than Burst Limit.  Having such a stupid amount of characters made me just waste so much time making stupid match ups like SSJ4 Gogeta vs Devil Man.

And Supersonic Warriors on GBA and DS is another great DBZ game.
