Naruto: Broken Bond - The Naruto Game to Own
« on: November 19, 2008, 10:28:38 PM »
I'll be quick:

+Combat vastly improved over the original. They didnt rework the system, but they made everything far more responsive and way cooler looking combos even early on.
+Easier to do Jutsus. Now that there are easier combos for getting some god damned breathing room you can pull off a few.
+Difficulty Levels! Not only do they have difficulty levels, but if you lose a fight you can change it to easier, or for some reason, harder ;)
+Models slightly improved. A characters mouth now moves while speaking and the art+ subtitles are no longer ruining the scene
+Real story presentation, like the original. I like the PS3 game a lot, but I really think the 360 Naruto games trump the Ps3 one in terms of adventure mode.
+World visuals improved x2

-So far, character models still could use like..chins. Other than that its been a pretty big improvement over the first (which is still a decent game- so is the PS3 one) DBZ games could learn a thing or two from the latest games for this series.

Its great to see that the combat is no longer stiff and has potential to be FUN. Pulling off Jutsus in the original (or trying to) drove me mad since enemies got up and in your face way too fast.

I still haven't played the PS3 version even though I bought it, so I don't know how much I want another Naruto game in my backlog.

Just stick with the ps3 one for now, grab broken bond when its used, no danger of them not making naruto games.

PS3 one still has the best character models and flashy fights, but the fights are fairly twitch and the story mode is uhh. Still a decent fighting game that gets hard in parts

I didnt like the fighting at all. I couldnt beat the guy who spit snakes in the demo, and setting up those jutsus by holding a button and twitching the sticks was like "you aren't serious about this right"

You cant really do a jutsu till you combo a person back to give yourself enough time. You would like the Ps3 one a lot better i'd think.

Still, you either have to like naruto or enjoy the fighting, if you dont really like either money is better spent elsewhere

I was planning on getting it cheap down the road anyway.  I did like Rise of a Ninja, well, a lot of parts I did hate...all in all I did enjoy it.  From the demo I noticed the combat was slightly better, the camera was slightly less worse, and the adventure stuff was more interesting.  The platforming was still really awkward to use.  Also, from the video review on IGN it seems like you can now wall run whenever you want instead of just limited to those footprint areas, so that's cool.

You're about halfway through the game. I'd say you had three more hours to go.

Oh, and thanks for the impressions, MAF. I'm game if it's a more refined and polished version of Rise of a Ninja. I'm definitely buying this. :D

Im pretty happy with all of the Naruto efforts on the latest gen of consoles, there isnt really a BIG STINKER among them. Unlike DBZ Burst Limit barf. least Dragon Ball Origins on DS made up for that

This game keeps rockin the house. They did a GREAT job with quests and teamwork in this game. It feels so much more of a complete experience than any Naruto game before it.

I wish the jumping/double-jumping felt like Naruto PS3's. That's my only complaint with the game.

Yeah, the jumping/double jumping in the game is really weird when compared to how every other game does it.  The demo for BB didn't seem to fix the weird problems with it.  It's like you have to plan everything out ahead of time before you jump.

I dunno, I avoid scroll collecting in the ps3 game, and thats like most of the reason youre double jumping around in that game. I can see where youre coming from but its not an issue for me.

I'm not gonna go back to dig up the PS3 thread, but I just started the PS3 and goddamn this is the best cel shading ever.  And 10+ minute install is lame.

And I think the aliasing was worse in the demo.

What are you even supposed to do in mission mode? I'm totally lost here.  One person wants me to find red flowers from a location I don't know, another person wants me to find ramen ingredients from a location I don't know, and another person wants me to find scrolls from a location I don't know.  Then there are these S-Rank misison pops up that don't explain anything.

in PS3 Naruto there's passive missions that are like useless achievements that dont mean shit. Take 5000 steps, its like ok sure. The ones around town where people need crap are completed with items won from fights and missions. Secret Scrolls are crap, since you can buy moves from the shop AND as you do story missions treasure chests appear in town that have the moves you'd buy with scrolls.

Beat it. Took roughly 12 hours to follow the main story and do a few side quests here and there. The game keeps the world open after the main story is over so you can complete side-quests and challenges, but I dont think im gonna bother. Got almost 600 but following the main story, getting the two tournament achievements on easy, and a few easy challenge achievements. You'd have to fucking rock at Naruto games on 360 to beat it on the higher difficulties. Some of the fights get cheesy even on easy mode.

Definitely the best Naruto game out there.

I'm currently at 52% playing on hard, it was really hard and cheap at first but it gets easier once you have a team (LB tag attacks) and when you have Naruto's strength at 4 bars or more.

using naruto its easy late game but then youre forced to use people who dont get a stat boost so its a little more annoying. Make sure you blow through the non-store tournament single and tag for an easy 50 points and then log online for on match for 5 points. if youre good enough you can probably get the online achievements lol

I never used him in the first one, but he's fucking nuts in Broken Bond, so he probably is still overpowered lol. Still, it was fun to use him in story mode.

The good news is I THINK you have to unlock him in story to use him online, and he's right at the end of the game, so you shouldnt encounter too many never played scrubs winning with him

Rock Lee was the best in the Gamecube games because you can unleash all 8 gates and fuck everyone up as your health drained.  Never played as him in Rise of a Ninja.  He's only worth it in the PS3 game for his hilarious special.

I just finished the first one, Rise of a Ninja, and was pretty impressed overall. I'm mopping up the last two or three "social quests" (town/non-story) to get the 100% of Leaf Village peeps loving my datte-bayo bootie.

But I think I'ma wait for Greatest Hits on this. Single-player was a blast, but I've had enough of it for now, and trying to play the first one online is probably the low point of my Xbox Live experience to-date. Lag (playing from Japan, but via fiber-to-home... +/- zero?), lag-switch/timeout bastiges, and round quitters... all for extremely short rounds of fighting.

I take it back -- playing Kill Tha' Pimp in Saints Row 1 is the low point of XBL existence, but that's a separate, special hell.

Really? The only thing that happened to me was it gave me "75% of Leaf Village Loves You" when I only had 74%.

If I was going to complain about something, it would be the Waterfall Speed Trial town mission #2, where you actually have to jump up the waterfall with the worst camera settings found in the entire game -- while the clock counts down. I was nearabout to throwing my controller this morning.

The got rid of the whole 'attitude' system so you dont go around town earning peoples trust. Broken Bond is way better than Rise of a Ninja, which is impressive considering RoN wasnt half bad.

I finished the game tonight at 650 pts. I'm not going online again, and I won't run around picking up coins. Rise of a Ninja, you were a pretty fun ride.

I played the demo for BB tonight, and was surprised at how much better everything looks. The city's much more fully rendered, and the characters have a lot more subtlety in them. I'm also stunned at how they kept the controls almost entirely the same, but manage to improve... everything. The fighting doesn't seem as spastic, and the fights LOOK better. They're much more in line with representing the anime feel of the property, rather than having it be strictly a 2D fighter with 3D art. It also feels like they've consciously toned down crap that was annoying, like the tree-leaping minigame, and placing health replenishing items around the world instead of inventory-ing up on Ichiraku Ramen.
