Narutobore - New Naruto 360
« on: November 20, 2008, 07:05:41 AM »
Wow, this is a big improvement over the first game.  I just put like an hour in.  I was worried that Leaf Village would be reused wholesale, but so far, that's not the case.  I liked Leaf Village in the first game, loved exploring it, but I'm glad they aren't putting a carrot in front of me to do it again.  That included, this is an improvement in every regard.  The graphics are around the board better and the animation is much smoother in both the overworld and in combat (one of the more annoying aspects of the first game is that there appeared to be missing frames.  Not good).  There's also the new tag mechanic in battles and splitting up your group to do (so far simple) puzzles in the overworld.

The fighting definitely feels tighter, but it's not much different than the first game.  It's still a fairly mashy licensed animu fighter.  It's a fairly decent one, but that's what it is.  I'd give the PS3 game a slight edge in combat, since it feels like an arena fighter which at least makes it feel slightly different, but hey, tagging is always fun, too, so I don't rank them all that far apart.

Visually, the PS3 game is the better total package, but the 360 doesn't have the aliasing problem on black lines that makes the PS3 version look :-/ at times.

So, final judgement:  95/100 GOTY

The combat is different between the 360 and PS3 versions?

That's awesome. More multiplatform games should have different gameplay between the two versions. Like, when Resident Evil 5 comes out, the 360 version could be a first person shooter and the PS3 version could be an RTS.

They're different games done by different developers.  I only played the PS3 version for a few minutes because, well, there's a lot of games out, but it also appears to be of rather high quality.

The new 360 one starts out later in the story than the PS3 one though, since the origin portion was covered in the first 360 game last year.

The cut scenes and the story in the 360 one so far are TEASING me to try to watch this godawful show again :( I have to keep reminding myself how terrible the anime actually is

Does the PS3 version have a story/adventure mode?

That's one reason why I didn't like how the first game looked.  It's not a bad looking game at all, but it always felt like the characters and world never meshed together.

Does Broken Bond let you, a young teen, transform into a naked girl to get old men off like the first game?

Sort of--you can wander around Leaf Village and collect trinkets, but to do a mission/fight, you just pull up your menu and you go right in.  No being at the right place or anything.

Yes!  And I do think the environments mesh better with the characters.

ps3 also doesnt have anime clips or much voice work. Almost all of the story is provided via scrolling text. PS3 version fails pretty bad at the story/setting but I still think the combat is a lot of fun and its an amazing looking game. The PS3 character models > 360 ones even in BB. The only difference between RoN and BB's character models is now their mouths move when they talk. Other than that they still have that fish eyed look in close ups and need more chin. The models do animate better in fights in BB than RoN tho

that's a shame.  no real adventure mode = no buy.  There are enough real fighting games out...

I should pick up a copy of RoaN and finish it up.

I just noticed that there are new drivers out for Nvidia cards on the PC that enhance the performance quite a bit and I got to wondering why don't consoles ever do the same? In an ideal world the PS3 would get one, then the devs of UNS would put in AA so it would look perfect.

I think Ultimate Ninja Storm on PS3 would have fone better if they used the 'tower' format from their second PSP game. Doing an open world just to make a character hip hop around rooftrops to collect shit is a waste.

New nVidia drivers probably don't provide many tangible updates for old ass 7 series cards now, though.

Yeah, I got my fill of that in RoN.  But that's kinda my fault for being a whore for Naruto.

those take years to get up to that point (like the driver released yesterday) and even a big one like this isn't necessarily going to mean the difference between AA/no AA in a game--it affects every game differently.  Console FW updates probably do optimize things, but nothing too noticeable.

I think stuff like the graphic API probably has to be set in stone and very predictable before the system is even released.  As implied above, what if a GPU update hosed older games, and the developer was no longer interested in supporting it and patching it (like if it were more than a year old)?

yeah, but that's why I said in an ideal world.

Aliasing really does kill next gen games for me.  As much as I think both Naruto and Mirror's Edge look great, I always hate how jaggy they are.  Though I would take aliasing over blurring.  GTA4 :piss2

Good point.  I know jack shit about game programming, but that sounds logical.  Shit goes wrong for people with nvidia updates all the time (there's always a few in a driver thread who say the update fucked things up) and more often than not, the user has to fix it somehow on their end.

its like way worse in the ps3 game. the senseless collecting is mind boggling. So I dont collect. I just find the missions and do those, cause theyre way more fun and you get additional character moves from treasure chests. Secret Scrolls = a joke to make you jump around town for hours

New episode of Shippuden was amazing.  It was 133 the sequel.  It's episode 85.  Hardly any story either, all action, just watch for that.

I really should start watching Shippuden again. Has the pacing got any better? I kinda got fed up with the fillers and read the whole manga instead.

No, the show is still shit.  I usually watch the episodes in fast forward and stop when there is a an action scene or a scene without shitty korean animation, so maybe I usually watch 5 to 10 minutes every couple episode, but the new episode I watched completely.
