For those who don't know, the 573 minutes thing is a Konami reference: 5 ("ko") 7 (na) 3 (mi). Also something that character designer Yoshizaki Mine likes to do in his comics with character names, wonder if that's where it came from?
there should be a Wii version if for no other reason then it can up the perv factor when you violate the ladies (and dude).
I'm serious, I'd love to see the media outcry over something like that if it were (alongside SNK's DS witch touching game) brought over to the states. Seeing Bill O's moral indignation over the fruitiest damn thing ever made could be the highlight of my month.
It could be easily removed for a U.S. release. I mean again, it's just an illustration you click on.

The way the game looks and with the whole cursor thing, I thought it would be a lock that the game would come out on Wii (albeit with a downgraded resolution). Was surprised it came out on 360, but I'm not complaining.
Nope.
Sadness.
Is there giant marsupial ball sacks I can shoot?
Nope.

None of the wackiness from Parodius is in Otomedius. I know it's a strange thing to be let down by, but I kinda am. The game IS good though.

Lyte, you aren't seeing any challenge on loop 1, presumably. But loop 2 is insane.
The slowdown MUST be intentional because as soon as you hit loop 2 you get about twice the bullets of the hardest part of loop 1.
How do I hit loop 2? I just did a session in the original mode and unlocked more difficulties, is that how it works?
Oh and Lyte, I'm with you on the graphics side, but I still think Tokyo and Alexandria levels look fucking gorgeous, personally. The two new levels are nothing to write home about, graphically, but provide more challenge than the entire arcade game. And the reduction of power up pods is deliberate! In the arcade version, you play each level as a standalone stage, so you need more power ups. In Gorgeous mode, you carry power ups over to the next stage.
The game looks incredibly clean thanks to the resolution, but just very, very simple. I wouldn't be so harsh on it if they were just a bit more creative with the stage and enemy design. Parodius just shits all over this in that regard. I love the music on the Alexandria stage and the "parallax" though.
I miss the shields and burst bombs from the original mode when playing gorgeous. But it is nice that they have two modes and the game play differences kind of make it like having two types of shooters!
My biggest issue with the game is just something I need to get used to, but it is a little annoying that the characters' LEGS count as part of the ship. When you go down low to snag a power-up, you take damage or can even die in gorgeous mode. Not used to this and it wouldn't happen in other Gradius/Parodius games.
