My bat-signal has been ignited, and I have arrived.  Sup motherfuckers.

Currently, I'm in a little bit of a mixed ska feel, second and third wave goodness.  So, I'll just list them as I can think of them, not necessarily in any order whatsoever.

Reel Big Fish
Streetlight Manifesto
Madness
Mad Caddies
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Less Than Jake
The Toasters
The Pietasters
Catch 22
The Specials
The Aquabats
Goldfinger
The Suicide Machines

Really?  :'( Alongside The Specials they are easily the most important Brit-Ska band of the 80's. I weep for Ska fans who don't know the original kings of the genre. A lot of the band members and the specials band members worked together a lot. The English Beat who tours these days is a random mix of the original beat and the specials.

Although they never hit it off big in America outside one or two songs, they were HUGE in England. Probably the biggest ska band of that time in the UK.

Good? Well, it's pretty much a series of fairly straight-forward mini-games. On the other hand, it's totally hilarious and bizarre.

Not really. Like I said, when I went to go see The English Beat in concert a few years ago it was like half The Specials band members.

To be fair, The English Beat was THE ska band of the 1980's. It be like being a fan of 60's british invasion rock but not knowing who The Beatles or the Rolling Stones are.

i like old roots rock ska and 2 tone the best.

modern ska is good.

my own favorites are the toasters and the pietasters.

luckily i grew up in DC in the 90s so I got a lot of great home grown talent along with all the "big" tours because nyc was so close and our own scene was huge

Same here, nothing wrong with more recent ska but 2 tone is where it is at. Nothing beats it for me.

My dad was huge into ska in the early 80's so I grew up with a lot of it.

Basically my image of ska in my head looks like this:

I absolutely loved seeing the beat in concert in 2006. Even though only the lead singer was from the english beat seeing so many people of the 2 tone era up there playing lots of stuff not just the beat but the specials and so on, was fantastic. And I never heard that BBC documentary. I gotta look into that.

i have far less ska than i thought i used to, it turns out

VA - This Are Moon Ska
VA- The Two Tone Story Box Set
The Toasters - Discography
The Scofflaws -  S/T
Pietasters - 1992-1996 (3 disc set collecting their early period)
The Bosstones - Discog
Suburban Legends - discog
Suicide Machines - Destruction by Definition (their first album is their best, i think)
Skatalites - High Bop Ska
scrappy - discog (pop punk / ska.  total guilty pleasure)
reel big fish - discog
Operation Ivy -  Energy (recently remastered.  sounds excellent) 2 Bootlegs
Moshpit on Disney - Ska / Punk covers of Disney tunes (Japanese Only release)
Mephiskapheles - God Bless Satan ("satanic" ska, really good pop ska done at a million miles per hour)

Manu Chao - Spanish punk singer turned Ska / Reggae singer

Less Than Jake - Discog

Hepcat - Discog (soulful Ska in the DC mode)

goldfinger - darren's coconut ass (a collection of more pop punk than ska covers)

common rider - lead singer from Op Ivy's band.  released 2 LPs then broke up.  Brilliant stuff.

checkered cabs - remember (my favorite DC ska band.  released one album then broke up)

i know i have more stuff not ripped like Ruder Than You's two CDs from philly and some Skunks from DC as well.

not counting all the Ska I have on vinyl (madness, english beat, specials, etc)

If you like i could toss together a quick sampler of some tracks so you can get an idea of the various sub genres surrounding ska
