Evilbore, recommend me a camera!
« on: November 21, 2008, 09:35:42 PM »
So, I'm looking to pick up a camera for my upcoming trip to the Dominican.

I know very little of photography, but I want a decent camera that I might learn to tinker with.  Not sure how much I'm willing to spend exactly, but say, a $400-ish ceiling (Canadian)

As someone who works with THOUSANDS (not an exaggeration, I work in a VERY BUSY photo lab) of pictures a day, and every major brand of camera, go Nikon, Panasonic, or Canon or go home. I have never had ANY returns (FOR ANY REASON) of those brands.

Second rate is FujiFilm and Sony. A few returns on those.

Everything else (including Kodak) is total dogshit. Lots of returns on those for every reason in the book. Sanyo has fucking PLASTIC lenses FFS.

i own a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 point and shoot and a Canon EOS 450D (Rebel XSi) DSLR, and have used my dad's Canon Powershot SD750 point and shoot.

all amazing cameras. what t234 said, with point and shoots canon, nikon, and panasonic are the cadillacs. you can't go wrong with any of them really. in my opinion, canon makes the best point and shoots.

if you're thinking of springing for a DSLR, go canon or nikon.

At 400 dollars, you're very close to a good DSLR.  You might as well make the plunge.
