While I agree home projection or general movie watching at home > going to the movie theaters. I'd like to pose this question. Have you seen a 4k digital movie? They are simply amazing for 3d stuff like Bolt, Wall-E.

Movie: Not bad, but not great, overall B. Not as good as Pixar movies (or Kung Fu Panda) but way better than pathetic talking-animal fare. Good concept and scenario, somewhat pedestrian writing which leads to flat characters. But as a bonus Malcom McDowell plays Bolt's cat-loving TV show nemesis, Dr. Calico. Really, I wish I had just gotten back from seeing American Dog.

Projection: Got free tickets. This is the second serious fuck-up in as many movies; when I saw Quantum of Solace it was blurry the entire time and didn't have digital sound (what the fuck!). With 5.1 and a 1080p projector at home that I actually bother to focus, I have a better home-theater experience than over half the time I go to the theater.

Digital animation, IMAX, and 3D will still get me out of the house - anything else is looking more-and-more like a home video venture.

The worst thing is when the picture dies a few minutes into the film and the theater rep comes out and promises everyone the picture will be up again soon plus they won't show the trailers again

...then the picture comes up and they show the trailers again. ughhh

A couple of months ago I went to this movie theater in Providence with my cousin and a friend to watch Speed Racer. The theater is on like, the 6th level of this fucking mall. Halfway through, someone pulls the fire alarm... we had to walk all.the.way.down to the ground level via Emergency Stairs... shit took forever. Then, instead of just saying screw it and leave, we had to travel all the way back up, complain that we only had seen half the movie and proceeded to get into a theater but the movie started about 10 minutes past the point we were interrupted :'(

When I went to see A.I., the film melted about 2/3rds of the way through and we all got rainchecks. A.I. kinda sucked so it was no big loss, except I used my raincheck to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within a few weeks later.

The movie's just an excuse to string together a few really sweet action sequences anyway.

I guess. Somehow it didn't seem to fit. The only action scene I really liked was the hunger training one.

Two stories:

1- When I saw Hannibal, some guy had a heart attack in the theater. Free tix. He was okay.

2- When I saw Synecdoche, new York the projection was so fucked. Half of it was on the wall of the theater. But because this theater is like big, corporate bullshit, there was no way to re-enter the theater proper and let anyone know. I had to walk backwards down an up escalator and then shout down a floor at the snack booth guy. Ugh.

This happened once when I was watching The sum of all fears. The movie still played their just wasn't any video. They didn't even fucking rewind the movie. I walked out.
