Braid (XBLA) - Wish I could play this game but I refuse to support Jonathan Blow.

Eh?

He does have a point there, Jonathan Blow is a huge douchebag, but even so it's worth playing Braid because it is a good gmae.

There was a whole thread about Blow a long while back. It was mostly me calling him an asswipe. Everyone else was like "Braid! I just beat it! I just spent money on that?"

I got given a copy, so I guess I don't really have that problem. I'd probably have been happy spending the money on it.

Still, I can see why people wouldn't like it. It's hugely pretentious at times, but I'm kind of a dick, so I appreciate that.

I was interested in the game until he made that comment about "bu bu i'll have to work :cry". It was just so assholery, prude, snide, snobby, all that. It was David Jaffe level of self-fellatio. I did a complete 180 after that. Who says that?

I have something of a soft spot for whiney auteur developers, to be honest. The more Jeff Minter whinges about...well, everything...the more I want to dress up as a sheep and go to his house.

I kind of assume Minter is senile at this point. It would explain why the only thing he can make is his own game. Which is a copy of someone else's game?

He's still responsible for the greatest comeback to a review ever, though. That takes some kind of sharpness.

The game wasn't that Braid was pretentious, it was that Blow's remarks after the release showed how much of a douchbag he was.  Shit like saying no one got the purpose of the game when it was a disjointed art school drop out mess that people had to salvage to make decent.  He really is the biggest douchebag in the industry.

Kestatrophy - there is a demo on both consoles... play it

the demo is highly misleading. mirror's edge is just terribly uneven. when it's good (like in the demo), it's OMG SO AWESOME, but unfortunately the game consists of mostly low points.

slowing the player down in game thats main strength is momentum and fluidity was a poor choice on dices part. oh and let us not forget the shit combat and the fact that you're forced into combat situations. if you must play it - rent it. at most it'll take you 6 hours to complete.

hopefully they get it right in the sequel (if there is one) because the main concept behind the game is solid.

it definitely shouldn't be anyones game of the year in a year with so many good games.

He's nowhere near that bad. I can think of plenty of people who are worse, though probably not as high profile.

And you say disjointed, I say postmodern...let's call the whole thing off, do doo.

He really is the biggest douchebag in the industry.

That's more of a compliment than he deserves because it implies that he's actually in the industry, and not just some douche that got his little indie game published by Microsoft.

Fall games I bought, loved and fully recommend:

Far Cry 2 -- Simply the greatest single-player FPS of this gen.  If you don't agree, you're an impatient fool that didn't give it enough time.  The more you play, the better it gets.  It's an absolute masterpiece in every sense of the word.

Alot of people seem to love Mirror's Edge on here. I have heard mixed reports, so please tell me what is great about this game? I have yet to play it.

Its Portal in a futuristic world without the portal gun and with parkour

the genius of mirror's edge is in its time trials, which necessarily show the game at its fluid complex best, and any one of which can take hours. the story mode is just -- just! -- a deeper platformer in the tomb raider or prince of persia style, stripped of the automations that once seemed necessary in such games -- and relative to its peers, even its combat isn't bad

Tomb Raider is pretty hott, so far. Rented it from Blockbuster because they didn't have The Last Remnant or Dead Space.

In time trials there are no enemies right?  So the quality of the combat shouldn't matter as you'll get your smooth flowing runs there.
