Black Friday Wal-Mart death

http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/11/28/2008-11-28_worker_dies_at_long_island_walmart_after.html

Quote
A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.

The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.

The cause of death was pending.

A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said.

Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."

Only a few stopped.

"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

You would think some people would realize that what they were stepping on wasn't tile or any kind of typical flooring.

I think that cattle prods need to be handed out to every black friday retail employee.

now we know people are willing to kill over fisher-price toys

that guy probably had to get up at 2 in the morning and trundle into work knowing he had a day filled with assholery on every level, and then this

i'd say they ought to release the security footage (if there is any) to shame the people who did that, but anyone who would bum rush and stomp a dude like that over discounted electronics has no shame to begin with

Better yet, frame by frame the footage to find every person who stepped on the guy and charge each one with manslaughter.

pit sounds too expensive.

you need to just have only one quantity of these ad buster items each.  then let the customers fight and kill themselves over it.  even better if they drop it and break it.  then watch the fireworks.  then have a camera stream it all for internet viewers.

the simple solution to this is hiring armed security guards and dressing them as nazi death camp officers

that would make for a slow, somber shuffle to the home furnishings department, wouldn't it

I like saving a little money as much as anyone else, but the lengths that some people go to is just insane. I'm never going out early on the day after Thanksgiving to get Black Friday deals, it's really not worth it.

I really want to just execute every shopper who trampled on this man. Is that wrong?

When you get inside a crowd of people you have no choice which direction you go.  You just try not to fall.

I honestly have never once considered being at a store on Black Friday.  I'm even wary of going for my $.99 Jack in the Box tacos today.

Over heard at my local ghetto trash Wal-Mart this morning (got a couple $2 DVDs).

Some distinguished mentally-challenged fellow who didn't own a HDTV was looking at a $198 Samsung Blu-Ray player and Wal-Mart had a peon there to ensure the people buying it actually had a HDTV (smart move, actually). The exchange went like this:

Peon: Do you already have a HDTV?
Idiot: Nah, man you don't need one of those.
Peon: Well this is really only for HDTVs.
Idiot: That commercial on da TV said it makes movies look betta than before.
Peon: Yea, but you need a HDTV to take advantage of it.
Idiot: That's that false advertising thing 'cause it don't say nothing about that on da TV. Someone aught to get a lawsuit up in here.

If the Wal-Mart employee then pulled out a gun and shot the guy in the head I think people around there would've cheered.

You'd think these places would implement some regulated procedure so this kind of thing wouldn't happen.  They're paranoid as shit about getting sued for everything else, yet they let 300 idiots storm their store at once with no control whatsoever.

Blame the dumbass managers who let these distinguished mentally-challenged fellows storm the store.  They really got to crackdown on that nonsense.  It was only a matter of time before something like this happened.  Sadly, someone had to die before any change can take place.

I told my friend, the one who's now a proselytizing super-lib atheist, that they should have armed guards at these events in larger cities, and he was aghast.  "What kind of world do you want to live in?" he asked.  "A world where people don't stomp someone to death over a $50 TV," I replied.

As a pro-violence liberal, I think that armed guards or at least the Police should be present in any major retailer during Black Friday.  Sounds ridiculous but if the police are there, people sometimes think twice before doing something so stupid.

From my days in retail, some people are just animals and as a result, need to be treated as such.  While I never saw anyone get trampled, the lengths and shamelessness people exhibit to get some cheap shit is disgusting.  Maybe if they were starving and there were bags of grain, yeah, I could see that.  For a TV?  Get the fuck out of here.

Honestly, though these retailer have to develop more organized systems for letting these crowds into Black Friday sales.  It's your damn store, Walmart.  Thank God I will never participate in Black Friday.  This weekend's news only solidified my decision.
