yeah, I'm surprised they haven't done that yet.  Maybe Valve is eyeing the project and waiting to buy it up (umm, not sure why they'd buy their own game), delay it until 2012, but 10x better than what it is.

Valve has been in contact with these guys. They asked them to remove the "Source" from the title, which they did. I gather, other than that, they're pretty happy for these guys to do as they wish.

Don't see why they wouldn't be, anyway. Valve probably don't want to spare the devs to put them on a Half-Life remake, so what do they care?

That's because all Valve did was port the game over to the Source engine. They didn't remake it for the engine.

Half-Life is LONG. The amount of manpower required to recreate all of it at that level of graphical fidelity is scary. If they are able to do it, then that's the best-organized mod team I've ever seen in my life.

I probably would have started out with the Source version as a base and worked on prettying it up while maintaining the existing AI/scripting. These guys are building everything FROM SCRATCH. That's insane.

Depends on how you look at it. TF2 could have easily retailed on its own for $20-$30 and the same goes for Episode 2. Not to mention that the package comes with Half-Life 2 and the first episode.
