Uncharted 1 didn't have a roadie run to it, but it had a roll.  You ran by moving the analog stick.

there is, but it's not something you can activate at any time like the run in Gears.  If you're just wandering around you have a trot style run, but in a firefight with other enemies, he hauls ass to move around.  It's automatic and changes when in battles.

Uncharted 2  :bow2 :bow2

Is it normal to not give a shit about any of Sony's franchises outside the Naughty Dog ones?  I have no interest in Motorstorm, Killzone, Ratchet, not much in Infamous (not huge Sucker Punch fan), but Uncharted 2 has me frothing like Halo four 3 Recon as the most anticipated games of 2009.

No interested in any of those is obvious, but not being interested in Infamous is crazy.  It's Crackdown + good parts of Assassin's creed + Star Wars powers + the plot from Static Shock + awesomeness - a good running animation

I'm one of the biggest Crackdown fans you'll find.  Game of the generation and what not.  I have interest in Infamous because it's sort like Crackdown, but then I look at the media and everything they've released is just a guy running around bolting people while jumping from things.  Looks like 10 mins of fun.  They need to release media of him doing OTHER STUFF to get me to care.  Can you even drive cars and do crazy stunt jumps like Crackdown?  Can you use all sorts of weapons?  Does he have OTHER POWERS than just shoot lightning?  They're not doing a good job hyping this.

See, this is where the Sucker Punch stuff comes in. I don't think the Crackdown comparisons are all that important, at least not as important as looking at what Sucker Punch has traditionally been very good at: characters (specifically, villains), entertaining plots and settings. If this was by some other studio that didn't have those strengths, I'm not sure how interested I'd be in it. But it's from Sucker Punch, man.

For the record, I'm pretty certain that they have specifically said that they are keeping some things close to the chest at this point, as to not spoil too much of what the game will offer.

Infamous will live and die by the story/villains imo.

If the villains aren't cool, the the whole being a super hero thing will be drivel.

That was the biggest flaw of Crackdown, in my opinion. Sure, the gangs packed greater heat and became more aggressive, but there was no real sense of the threats leveling up with the character, and the "bosses" were some characters apparently drenched in Nomex and with some extra padding. Hulk UD pees all over Crackdown in that respect.

Crackdown for me was....going up on top of buildings, and jumping around.

I see potential in there, but, what's the point of being so powerful and having no "equal". I know it's like this super cult game, so i better not piss on it, but yeah, Hulk > Crackdown to me.

Crackdown had no plot.  It just had incredible gameplay.  So many ways to approach situations and the world is just tons of fun to drive and run around.

The idea of Infamous being Crackdown with a real plot does nothing for me.  Crackdown gameplay does not need plots or characters.  Same thing with GTA, the cutscenes do nothing for me.  All I care about is the gameplay and Infamous better be as good as Crackdown if they want my money.

I only played Sly Cooper 1 but was not impressed.  It was a good game, but nothing great.  Maybe 8/10ish.  Then I heard 2/3 weren't very good so the name Sucker Punch doesn't impress me.

Eh, really? I seem to remember it being about chasing orbs, or shoot/run over/kick criminals. Oh yeah, drive your car off of things. I liked the game a lot, but there wasn't much to it, was there? Hell, even the much loved jumping around was limited to hopping and grabbing on to ledges.

I felt the weapons and the abilities let you make different strategies for the bosses.  Do you climb around their back and throw them off a building?  Do you snipe them from afar?  Do you throw cars at them and then blow up the cars with rockets?

At least compared to GTA and the other sandbox games, it felt like you had a lot more freedom.  Same with reaching the orbs or stunt rings.  Do you actually make the stunt jump?  Or do you climb a building across the street with a car and drive off the roof to fly through it.  Or do you get a friend to throw you while you're in a car through it.

"Felt like you had more freedom compared to Gta"

Well uh, no shit, in GTA the main character isn't a dude with a suit that let's him super jump, super punch, super push, and shit like that. What kind of dumb comparison is that?

To me, it all comes down to the fact that soon after Crackdown Started, i had no reason to keep playing, as the novelty value of having so much power wears thin when you don't have a reason to keep pushing it.

Crackdown did have a plot, and actually I thought it was pretty damn hilarious how they threw it on you, almost like mocking other video games.  You go around killing all these people seemingly for no reason at all, then at the end they explain that you stir shit up to maintain order by fear with the citizens, so essentially you're Hitler!

So you actually believe there's a logical explanation behind the addition of stealth to a game like this?

Lara kicks tigers and Drake hides behind barrels... smh

I think it's best for the industry when games don't restrict themselves into one gameplay arena. Stealth, if done right, will be a welcome addition.

Why is it that some think games should start with a gameplay idea, and finish with that one?

The biggest problem with the first uncharted was their focus on (clunky) gunfights. They should add more skill-requiring jumps and puzzles and less linearity too please.

Now that they've added stealth, I'm not sure what the game is trying to be anymore. It could work who knows.

I agree with you that they need to add more adventure, platforming, and exploration, but I wouldn't call the gunplay clunky at all.  It worked just fine for the most part, though I thought it needed to be much more visceral.  Plus, the gunplay situations were ridiculous canned and inorganic.

The biggest problem with Uncharted was simply that it was SIX HOURS LONG and unlike Mirrors Edge there's no replay value besides playing it a few months down the line to experience it again.

All Uncharted 2 needs is to be 10 hours long with no filler bullshit.  Just 10 hours of pure gaming goodness.  If they want to make the platforming a little more often and tougher that too.

I don't see how game length has anything to do with it. By the time Uncharted was over, it felt anything but short.

Saying a game needs to be 10 hours, or any variant like that is dumb. The game should have the length that allows for the pacing to be good, the bigger the game, the harder it becomes to pace it, and the shorter the game then the more eventful it has to be.

Uncharted felt about right for the size of the adventure, but you also finished it in a day and then you were done with the game.  A longer adventure with a longer length would help that.

Then again Gears 2 is 2x longer than Gears but it just goes on and on whereas the original had tight pacing.  Stretching stuff is bad.  Making you redo levels 2x to get 2x game length is bad.

Gears 2 could feel longer if only because it's actually varied.  and Uncharted was short enough that I could replay it right after, but long enough that it didn't feel like it wasn't fully realized.

saying 'wasn't that bad' still implies it was bad, which it wasn't at all.  Uncharted is a good game.  People on gaf do blow that shit out of proportion, and it does get very annoying, but it doesn't affect the actual quality of the game.

That works both ways, too. GAFtards are annoying in their praise, but the contingent of bleeding whiners that they have inspired, and who is just as happy to exaggerate, is no better.

And honestly, if you are going to listen to what a mob-like group of known twits has to say about a game, then some disappointment is a certainty. I mean, when did impressions from stards start carrying such immense weight, anyway? Uncharted is a well designed, quality game with great production values, lots of highs and some misses. It's not a breakthrough in game design or storytelling, just a high quality adventure (shooter). I expect more of that from the sequel, with some improvements where needed.

As dorky as it may sound, I really liked that aspect of Uncharted. I'd say something like "oh shit" and then right after Drake would say the same. Nothing unique or amazing, but it added something to the character. Then again, maybe being like me isn't as great of a thing as I like to imagine.

The truth is that every developer uses 100% of the systems power on every game. Some just get more out of that 100% than others. Not sure if anyone's mentioned this in here:  In the GI article, the Naughty Dog shmoe says that stealth is not required and that it's just an alternate technique to use sometimes.

Still, I'd be surprised if they don't incorporate it heavily into one gameplay section, even if it's just an intro.
