REDMOND, Wash., Dec 01, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system kicked off the holidays with record- breaking console sales on one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year in the U.S. Retailers reported Xbox 360 console sales over the Black Friday weekend were on pace to beat previous years, outselling the PlayStation 3 by a three-to-one ratio and estimating a 25 percent increase from Xbox 360 Black Friday sales figures from 2007.

That being interesting and all, but I think year-over-year November will be close to flat, if not slightly down (last year's monthly sales: 770K). Last year, Black Friday fell on November 23, and the reporting period ran through December 1. More time for holiday sales for November. This year, BF on the 11/28, reporting ends on 11/29. Just my two cents.

In other news, I hope 360 burns through some older inventory so I can get a newer model sooner rather than later.

360 deals on black Friday were so good that I was about to buy another one for $130.  Best deal on the PS3 was...actually I don't think there were any deals on the PS3.

I got selected for one of those Amazon.com voting deals on a PS3. If I had been fortunate enough to get in early enough (actually, to even try), I could have gotten a PS3 + LBP + the POTC trilogy for $199. It would have been worth it for POTC. The runner up deals were for PS3 + some other crap for $299.

I wasn't going to try for it, though, as I was hoping to get selected for a the 46" Sammy they were going to sell for $699 a couple of days later. One of the runner-ups for that day would have been a standlone blu-ray player, which I'd prefer to have over a redundant gaming platform.

Well, the games are generally uninspired tripe and various Rare garbage, but other than that it's alright. Also holding it back is the absolutely uselessness of its much talked of media features. Shitty laggy shit console with shit media navigation. But wait, how about the XBL experience? Pay to get yelled at by tweens empowered by anonymity, nothing can beat that! And if that's not enough, buy some themes!

Seriously though, I would have been happy with a real successor to the Xbox. You know, the system that packed more features than you could shake a stick at, and that did so really well too. Now, it's all about the nickel and dime. Also missed: Rallisport, Amped.

And yeah, better online, absolutely. For one, it's free. And then there is the fact that Sony first party online smokes anything on the 360, in featureset and functionality. Unless of course you really prefer p2p and slow ass, tightly controlled matchmaking (and matchmaking only) over dedicated servers and the choice of matchmaking or server browsing.
