It's a hot looking game. Plays well, too, which is much more surprising. I'm not sure if I can be bothered with getting into another MP game as I still consider COD4 good enough for my short play session, but if you're really into MP, it should be hot.

Actually I was trolling but Chromehounds would be nigh fucking unplayable without almost blanket headset support like the 360.

Assuming people use the headsets, mind you. I tried playing some Halo 3 online, and there were on average 3 people in each game that even had headsets. Not that Halo 3 really calls for it, but it felt suspiciously like playing games on PS3. And to add to the confusion, there has been a ton of chatter in the recent PS3 games I've played. To the point where I have opted not to play with headsets, unless the game has really called for team work. No clue where I'm going with this.

Shivering Isles was the first thing I tried while offline after the transfer, and since it didn't work I didn't bother trying anything else.  Admittedly I'm always online so it doesn't affect me greatly, but it still pisses me off that Microsoft still hasn't fully resolved what should be such a simple thing.

I never applied for the KZ2 beta, and I'm not a member of the "underground" or whatever the hell it's called. Ironically, I got into the two of them that felt like genuine betas (KZ2 and Warhawk) without ever applying. I'm guessing it's random.

This past summer I had so much fun filling out my collection on PS2 because you could find the games cheap and you could talk to people about games and gaming rationally and cooly. I am curious to see how gamers reflect on the 360 and the PS3, but I have somewhat of a hunch it isn't going to be as positive as I sort of feel about it now.

I'm not sure if that's the trend for everything-- ninthings have managed to hold on to memories of the SNES, for example, and the PS2 still enjoys a sort of honeymoon period even in year 9-- but I am not sure the same will be said for these five or six years.

I was sort of thinking about that earlier. I didn't particularly like the PS2, loved the Xbox, but I also got into that generation a bit late, just like with the generation before. Actually, this is the first generation where I jumped straight into it at release day (of both consoles) probably in part due to PC gaming no longer being a viable alternative, and it's been overall disappointing. There have been glimpses of brilliance, but generally, it's not until now that I feel that either console has really come into their own. I'm thinking late 2009 would have been a good time to jump on board, maybe 2008 for Xbox 360. The PS3 has completely redeemed itself with Wipeout HD, still waiting on something of the Rallisport caliber on the 360. But both systems are actually pushing good stuff right now, and it only looks better in the next year.

That said, I don't remember last generation as particularly laid back. Maybe there was less of a blistering fanboy war due to the differences being much greater, but man, it must have sucked being a Nintendo fan in the Purple Lunchbox generation.

PSP port, feh. It's a Wipeout game on the PS3, and looking very much the part of a next gen racing game due to its polish and inherent stylistic beauty. It's unique, and it's the good of Playstation for a change. The fact that it's a PSP game probably says more about the shittiness of other racing game developers than it does about the console it's blessing with its presence.

As for RSC, its absence and the lack of BC support for RSC2 really stands as an example of all the things wrong with the Xbox brand this generation. Instead of pushing something genuinely exciting, they have decided to go with the sterile, competently engineered but ultimately drab, B-grade shit of PGR and Forza.

I don't play the shitty sim racers, but I kind of thought the PGRs on 360 were sterile.  GRID has bested PGR imo.  AA's failure here is not talking up Motorstorm.  It is really the best thing to happen to racing games since Burnout 3.

And Sony went from releasing (or having third parties release) a dozen shit hot games each year to churning out who-cares titles like Resistance, Uncharted, Motorstorm like a B-grade XBOX. Assuming you give them the benefit of the doubt on stuff like Lair. Give me some titles from unique genres (Valkyria is a good start) or HD sequels to shit that used to be awesome.
