after years of heavy gaming, I can't help but notice technical stuff.  Out of everything, only a really bad framerate will hinder my experience, since it's the only thing that has an impact on gameplay.  Horrible aliasing and tearing can be a turnoff though.

amazon dude.

though I think they charge pretty close to the same amount for sales, you can sell things at a higher price.  and it's not all confusing with listing fees, paypal fees, sales fees, etc.-  they charge you a flat rate, credit you $3.99 for shipping, but tell you exactly how much will go to your account if the item sells. so then you just have to ship it.

For some reason I STILL don't have my PayPal payment cleared from an auction. They still won't let me take it.

lol at someone defending the ps3 and then calling the ps2 shit. i mean, at least the nintendo fans are consistently distinguished mentally-challenged. this one doesn't even make sense.

It was a shitty shit system of the less is less format with 3 great game series. Hell, it didn't even have a good Wipeout game.

:piss PS2  :piss2

I definitely need a full thread from you detailing this PS2/360 suck Xbox/PS3 rule.  Specifically regarding the PS2, I only know one person that didn't really care for the system, mainly because he only plays shooters and has gigantic monkey hands (he LOVED the Duke).

Are you one of those guys who can only like one particular thing within a genre at a time to the exclusion of all else?  Or do you latch onto one or two games so much that they define a console for you?  I'm very curious.

Considering that it's already been explained in detail a few times already, I doubt another try will make any difference, but hey. I disliked the PS2. It was a rickety nickel and dime system, and it had few game series worth playing. Am I supposed to claim that it was somehow a wonder-kiosk of gaming because it offered so many flavors, even if I personally disliked nearly every one of those flavors?

It had such a vast library across so many different genres that saying "I didn't like the PS2" is kind of like saying "I don't like video games."  The only two things I can think of that it didn't have were a truly great shooter and a great western RPG.

What makes it even more baffling is that in the same sentence, you have all kinds of praise for the PS3.  It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but then again, I'm from Alabama, so I'm a little bit slow.

But something tells me there's not a lot of rationality that goes into it...

I don't have much good to say about the PS2 system itself aside from that it plays DVDs (sounds familiar!).
But the library is damn good!

I for one did not enjoy all that many PS2 games. Exclusives, there were like 5. And three were Final Fantasy. With multiplatform stuff I got for PS2, we're up to 9. The rest... bunch of skippable crap, if you ask me.

Of course, there weren't too many Xbox and GameCube games I liked, either. Less than PS2 for GameCube, more than PS2 for Xbox. But whatever. Then again, there are only 5 current gen games I'd care to play, too.

You liked FFX-2 but not any of the other good-to-great JRPGs on the PS2?!?

In addition to all of the Japanese RPGs, you couldn't find anything you liked in these series: God of War, Gran Turismo, Ico/Shadow, Sly Cooper, Jak, Ratchet & Clank, GTA/Bully,  Metal Gear Solid, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Hot Shots Golf, etc?

You're a damn picky man!

I'm really not sure if there's anything more reasonable than to judge the quality of a system based on your own likes and dislikes, yet somehow that seems to be damned near incomprehensible to some of you. I have about as much interest in the "vast library" of the PS2 as I would in a "vast library" of books about gnats.

The PS3 is by no means a great "experience," and if I had some sense I would have absolutely waited until probably around now before purchasing one. But it seems set to be a massive improvement on the PS2. It has earned some gold stars for being a more is more system, and Sony has gone some way in filling the void left in the wake of games like Crimson Skies and Rallisport. I also really enjoy the fact that there is a perfectly functional online system that requires no credit cards or codes to keep active, and that Sony itself seems pretty dedicated to providing strong feature-sets in its online games. And now the system has Wipeout HD, so that voids whatever strengths the PS2 might have had.

I absolutely understand why some would prefer the PS2 last generation, and the 360 now, but I don't. Oh happy day and glory be, Microsoft has made great strides with getting JRPGs on the system! Great news... if you like that type of stuff. I'd trade all of them for three courses of Rallisport style racing.

I'm the opposite.  PS2 is like herpes...I've had a bunch of games that I've considered my possible "final PS2 game" but new ones are trickling out.  Next up: Persona 4.  I also keep finding old games to revisit or ones I've looked over.

I've played through a lot of games on it, though when I had an Xbox 1, I bought my multiplatform stuff on that instead.

edit: also, overall, NG+hurricane packs, NGBlack, Halo 2, DOA 3 and Ultimate, KOTOR, CvS2 online, and SF:Anniversary online were my favorite last gen games, so I think I got more enjoyment out of my Xbox than PS2.  But PS2 is winning the long distance sprint (since these favorite games play on the 360/PC.)

Like you, whenever someone says they don't care about 360 breaking down or about the state of the dashboard or about XBox Live fees or the sound the console makes or whatever else?

And for the record, I don't care if someone prefers or enjoys PS3. I just find it annoying that they always have to switch from one 6-month-away game to the next over and over again instead of just sitting down and enjoying something like Valkyria Chronicles - it seems they pick their favorite upcoming games based more on how marketable they are than how much fun will be had.

And honestly I can't understand why someone who is into games enough to post on message boards about them would choose to get a PS3 over a 360, unless for Blu Ray. There's not much on PS3 that isn't represented on 360, often in greater numbers.

Sony fanthings are quite possibly more annoying this gen than Nintendo fanthings were last gen.  At least ninthings could fall back on OMG PROFITS!, whereas the sdf can just keep saying "Wait until [insert next PS3 exclusive] hits!  Then things will turn around!"

Of course, the real tragedy in all of this is that the DS is outselling both combined.

I get it.  You have an unhealthy relationship with Rallisport and Wipeout HD.

oh, and Wipeout XL >>> Wipeout HD

Wipeout HD is too fucking hard for its own good.  And I've played every single previous Wipeout game.

GoW1 and 2 have like the best opening levels ever of any game.  Destroying the hydras and killing that statue = FUCK YEAH.  The rest of the game = zzzzzzz.  Perhaps not coincidentally, the demos for those games are those respective levels.  Both times I got suckered in.  It's like a movie trailer that shows all the best parts, but the rest sucks.

that's funny, when i play games i am usually thinking "wow, this is a fun game" or "wow, this game isn't fun" and not "wow, look at the jaggy leaves on those trees and the v-sync and frame rate and my fun is just RUINED *flaps hands*"

Well, that's what normal people are supposed to think.

God of War II has too many bosses. I got stuck on Euryale because honestly, I didn't give a shit anymore. I'll pick up where I left off, get past Euryale and probably love it for an hour before the next boss. Maybe it's because combat with "minor" creatures like the minotaurs or satyrs were so awesome, and the bosses just felt sort of meh. Still, I love playing God of War for the sheer visceral fun value, and for those moments fighting those big, minor creatures. One of three great PS2 franchises.

And honestly I can't understand why someone who is into games enough to post on message boards about them would choose to get a PS3 over a 360, unless for Blu Ray. There's not much on PS3 that isn't represented on 360, often in greater numbers.

My ps3 is mostly for blurays and a few key titles, not the experience of a lifetime. Unless I wanna go around saying that my DVD player was my favorite console, cause I played that a lot too.
