probably ninja gaiden 2. or FF4 remake, but who knows if that classifies as hard? I still need to beat Bangai-O Spirits but that game has soooo many stages.

Yeah, I agree. But the higher difficulties are ridiculous, as has been said in NG2 threads. but comared to everything else out there these days, it's hard. I mean, the fact that lots of people complain it's fucking hard but I didn't it find it THAT bad really makes me go ???

I did a one credit run through of Espgaluda at work a little while back.  That is like taking most hard games and swallowing them and shitting out just the concentrated hard bits.

I can one credit G-darius and darius gaiden which probably isn't so hot, but I can one credit them!

Espgaluda is tough? How tough?

And wtf at JRPGs, ugh i'm not talking about level grinders, fuck that shit, worst games in existence.

Every gamer should be forced to master at least one evo character before commenting on games.

Master as in finish every arcade in the quest mode?   :-*

Tough.  Not impossible Raizing games tough, but fucking tough.  Once you grok the scoring system (which is OMFG) the game gets a little easier.

NG1 has a more "genuine" difficulty than 2 at higher difficulties.  Spamming incendiary shurikens is not the good kind of difficulty that comes from good AI.  Also skill in most hardcore action games involves finding the strategies and moves that are the safest-- in NG2 finding those techniques and moves practically breaks the game.  They would do the same on harder difficulties, but as I said, it's hard to pull anything when IS are constantly sticking in you with no chance to dodge.

anyway, wrika, it's not just about a game being hard, it's any kind of challenge.  SOTN is not hard, but finding out how to progress is challenging. NG2 on warrior isn't hard, but you still need a certain level of skill to get by.

the hardest genres for me:

2d shooters and rhythm games

I mean, I'm good at the non-peripheral rhythm games, but the peripheral ones wow. Some of the dudes that play those are godly.

:bow Patel :bow2

I found NG2 harder than NG1 overall because I had to use exploits and a full arsenal of moves plus ninpo in order to survive. In NG1 I used ninpo like maybe 2 times.

Shinobi on PS2 was easy

and I'm curious to see what they mean when they say automatic platforming.  If it's similar to Sands of Time in that you always knew where to jump and all that, then I don't see what's so bad about that.  Do they just mean it's really obvious then? like you won't be making leaps of faith?

The scoring system rewards you for building up bullets onscreen and then destroying their spawner.  So you build up crystals (or some such) and wait until the screen is at max and go into secondary fire more.  Once the spawner is killed in this mode it's bullets turn into points.  It runs so smooth once you get into it.

Ninja Gaiden is easy

have you beaten the final boss?

A lot of the 3d games people I know say are hard (DMC, Jet Set Radio, ninja gaiden;etc etc) are really easy for me. I guess I wouldn't say easy, because there are moments where I'm like "heh how do I get past this?" but they aren't HARD either. I guess they're more in the middle? But these days, these kind of games ARE refreshing because most games now ARE easy.

However, 2d games can be a struggle for me. I think 2d games overall are just so much more difficult compared to 3d games.

Some people found normal mode hard all the way through, most people found that it just had a steep learning curve at the beginning.  The game gets easier as you progress- it forces you to be good.

on the other hand, Very Hard and Master Ninja are tough as nails.  Those first few chapters are disgusting until you get the izuna drop and powered up weapons.

Yeah, Shinobi wasn't hard.  God Hand is also easy.

btw, when I say they are easy I mean I got good at the games and they became easy which is a great goal to strive for rather than having flawed mechanics and frustration.

Yeah, the learning curve in NG1 was greaaaat. It was great because those fucking incendiary shuriken ninjas would fuck own you left and right until you figured out a way to defuse their shit. I loved that. The game wasn't hard as balls or anything, but the learning curve was really memorable to me.

But she doesn't take you right back to where you fell each time.  She basically acts as a glorified (and much faster) checkpoint system, and I'm completely fine with that.

It sounds MUCH better than the Too Human method.

Back off-topic, the only games that are generally regarded as sort of difficult that were easy for me were Maximo 1/2.  The combat and platforming were so rock-solid and everything just made sense, just like Ninja Gaiden does for some of you.

Also, I don't think Gears is that difficult and I managed to beat both games by myself on Hardcore (working through Insanity now, which seems much tougher than Gears 1 ever got, particularly during the turret sections).

lol  @ "master real skills."  I'm assuming you're sitting on a forum arguing with the rest of us losers because you've already run half a marathon, conducted an orchestra, built a house, and painted a masterpiece this morning?

c'mon...anyway, as I suspected, it seems like you have a similar conception of "challenge" (a game that takes some figuring out, then makes you apply what you've learned) but for some reason you don't equate it with skill.
