I just want to say:

GH World Tour over Rock Band 2?
Lotr and Warhammer over WoW?
Fable II?
The nod to Sins of a Solar is appreciated at least.

ghwt is a terrible, terrible game

Only in comparison to Rock Band 2.

It does have some really good exclusive songs, very good hard guitar charts (though fuck Assassin right up its ass), and I like the additions to the guitar/bass (tapping/sliding sections, notes during sustains, and open strums).  It's not bad at all as a solo experience, but it is a pretty poor multiplayer game compared to RB2.

Real talk: Why do people hate on GHWT?

I don't particularly care since I bought Rock Band 2 and only plan on picking up 1 music-based game this Fall so I have no interest in Guitar Hero World Tour. I've just seen so many people hate on the game that I've become curious. Isn't the create your own soundtrack thing at least worthy of some praise?

In comparison to Rock Band, it's terrible. If you've never seen Rock Band before, I'm sure you'd love GHWT.

Why though?

I dunno, I guess part of me finds it difficult to really screw up Guitar Hero since it was pretty well received last year.

Maybe the fact that if one person fails in a band session, the entire band fails

According to some of my friends, "it looks like a Fischer Price My first Rock Band" game. The presentation is juvenille and cartoonish. I hate the presentation of the note charts, I hate the fact that you have no idea how the vocalist is doing. I hate that you can't save people if they fail a song. I hate the lack of a Band World Tour type mode. I hate that the sound effects drown out the songs. I hate advertising that's plastered on most levels.

I could go on...

That's true for both games.  The difference is that you can be saved in Rock Band.  To compensate for not having that mechanic, Guitar Hero lets all four players draw from the same pool of star power so in theory, a bad player can continually save themselves without having to earn their own star power like you do in Rock Band.  Plus, it seems harder for an individual to fail out in GHWT if the other three players are doing well.

I prefer the Rock Band system, of course, but the GHWT system isn't as bad as it appears at first glance.

I should also mention GH3 wasn't very well-received because of the sharp difficulty spike. Rock Band then came out and completely made Guitar Hero irrelevant.

There's still two kinds of people who like Guitar Hero:
1) Casuals that don't know about Rock Band
2) Score Hero kids who just want to be challenged

Rock Band is one of my favorite series around, but it's not quite the best game to play if you JUST want to play guitar since it focuses more on the band aspects than having a particularly challenging career mode.

And how quickly we forget that Guitar Hero 3 sold close to 9 million units so far, which absolutely shatters Rock Band.  Most gamers "in the know" moved on to Rock Band, but the majority of the world has not.

Is that just for one SKU? GH3 was released on all right away. Rock Band trickled down. GH3 also got the advantage of being released earlier, etc

That's across all SKUs.  Rock Band has sold around 4 million across all SKUs, but I'm sure it has a much higher average sale price, if that means anything.

GH3 sucked ass.  distinguished mentally-challenged notecharts that made things artificially difficult.  :yuck
