I just started Last Call

Kind of awesome so far. It stars Bugsy Siegel as the Fisher King, who built the Flamingo hotel (and Las Vegas) as some sort of inverted talisman of arcane power. The Tarot, T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland, and the Grail legend also heavily inform the worldview. It's pretty rad.

Just a few books and graphic novels

Zombie Survival Guide
Batman: Killing Joke
Batman: Joker
Batman: Arkum Asylum
Ghost Recon
Walking Dead
Mass Effect: Ascension

I'm looking for more stuff like Mass Effect-ish but not finding much out there that holds my interest. I love future weapon books like Endwar and Ghost Recon and alternate history mmmm. I might have to cozy up to some books soon.

Axe by Ed McBain, but i'll probably finish it on the train home tonight.

i'm about half way through. it's a really short read at 136 pages (in the edition I have, a used Australian copy) and it reads like a TV show. Lots of dialogue.

there is also plenty of flavor text regarding the characters so you can get a good grasp on them even if you're only going to spend a page or two with them.

If you're a fan of cop shows you'd probably be a fan of this.

I'll probably finish this on the train today. no idea what's next on the reading agenda.

Just recently. I got the barebones 30 dollar subscription just for food network and mah LIBRUL MSNBC programming. It also helps to have something for nights when I cant sleep. I still watch most of my TV on DVD just cause I cant keep up with the schedule.

When does this book pick up?

I just finished Chapter 3, and it's very confusing/confusingly written. I'm not getting into it so far.

Just finished: Marshal Law: Blood, Sweat and Fears :rock

Reading now: Nausea by Sartre

On my Christmas list: a big old list of photo books (Doisneau, Daido Moriyama, Avedon, Kertesz, Winogrand, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, etc). And Krazy Kat: The Art of George Herriman. It should be a good introduction to the strip for me.

Quote
Genre hopping seems to suit horror writer Schow (Havoc Swims Jaded) as he lets out all the stops in this high-caliber action story. It's no exaggeration to say that Barney has a more intimate relationship with guns than he does with any human, living or dead. That's why Mexicans call him el hombre de las armas, the gunman. It's also why old army buddy Carl Ledbetter drags him into a messy situation when Carl's fiancée, Erica, is kidnapped in Mexico City. At the prearranged money drop things start to go awry, and eventually a badly beaten, mutilated, shotup and half-starved Barney emerges, determined to get revenge on the kidnappers and anyone else who gets in his way. This is a gory, fast-paced pulp tour de force in the classic style. (Nov.)
