Who says cartoons are for kids? Family Guy and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane tops Entertainment Weekly's list of the 25 smartest people in television.
The magazine says Family Guy DVDs and merchandise have earned a reported $1 billion. MacFarlane is the highest-paid writer on TV, with a Family Guy spinoff called The Cleveland Show in the works.

Says Entertainment Weekly: "That frat-boy persona is only a cover."

30 Rock creator and Sarah Palin imitator Tina Fey is second on the magazine's list. CBS Paramount Network Entertainment chief Nancy Tellem is third. Oprah Winfrey came in sixth

Well, sadly I think the world at large is more familiar with her from that than from 30 Rock or her flicks.

Wow, this is just like that time when I sat next to Oprah Winfrey at the World's Smartest Person on T.V. Awards Show, and they were filming SNL next door.

This is just like that time when Homer had that surgery to remove the crayon from his brain and the crayon made him really smart, but then he found out that smartness and unhappiness are inversely proportional.  I think Gary Coleman was there giving a blowjob to a midget while slapping a slap bracelet around his ankle to the beat of the theme song from Welcome Back Kotter.

Bleh.  "Smartest" for the list basically means "made at least two savvy decisions".  It's for the Variety/Manabyte/Cheebs wannabe insider set.

It would be a lot more nerdy fun to argue about who in TV really has a 16 Int.  I say Tina Fey, Hugh Laurie, and Stephen Colbert.

I like South Park, despite the embarrassing politics.  What's offensive about Robbins and Penn, anyway?  I thought Bob Roberts was pretty good!

Haven't watched South Park in a couple years.

It's basically the Law & Order of comedy:  a long-tenured show that leans on formula and topicality.

Pick a headline or social issue.  Come up with some imagery that someone who doesn't have the internet would find really offensive.  Write exactly one joke and repeat it ad nauseum.  Pat yourself on the back for being able to mimic the tropes of one or two TV/movie genres.

I'm not sure whether earlier seasons were actually better or if it was just the novelty.  The politics wouldn't be an issue if it were actually funny.  Lord knows I love Vernor Vinge and there's plenty of libertarian hectoring in his work.

I don't know, South Park was funny to me up until 4 seasons ago I think.  This season has been pretty awful except for whenever Butters shows up.

all the big adult cartoon shows are pretty still pretty funny to me since I only catch them once every few months (nothing to compare them to.)  Well, besides the simpsons, since I still watch at least one older episode of that a day. but even they hit the mark every once in a while.

The last episode of South Park I saw was the Britney watch episode and it was pretty good.

I haven't watched the last season of SP but it was funny from what I can remember.  Not that formulaic also.  Then again I like King of the Hill and a bunch of people hate it apparently.

If Tina Fey is a 16 int, then Trey Parker and Mike Judge are also around that level.
Tina Fey was #2. Mike Judge? lol. I thought Fox just cancelled his show.

I don't think Tina Fey has 16 INT.  She brought Jimmy Fallon to prominence, if even for a little while.  Maybe it was her giving the industry the finger but since she appeared to enjoy his presence, I think not.

Haven't watch South Park in a long time but its still better than Family Guy.  FG is basically a glorified version of I Love the 80s with even less writing.  Take a joke that lasts 5 seconds and stretch it to a minute.  You only got 22 minutes and only 14 minutes of actual material.  The longer the joke is stretched out, the funnier it is, right?  Throw in a few misogynistic and racist jokes in there because you want to be edgy.  Cleveland is black!  Make a few jokes about that.  Make a joke about that time of the month, if you know what I mean.  That still gives Seth the chance to have a couple more extended jokes.  Maybe replicate a TV show scene.  Then make another 80s reference for good measure.

People like Family Guy because they hope that some religious or feminist group somewhere is offended at the material.  I wonder what would happen to the ratings show when these people realize that those groups don't really give a fuck.

WTF has Tina Fey ever written that's as smart as Office Space?
What does office space have to do with a TV Show based list though?

Beavis and Butthead aren't even on the air, this is a list for smartest people on tv. I LOVE Office Space but it would make no sense for him to be on a list of best people on tv right now when his only current tv show just got cancelled.
