Fallout 3 is FUCK AWESOME

The character I made is male. I'm pooling stats into Endurance, mostly, is that good or bad? And the skill I'm concentrating on now is Repair and Melee Weapons.

Any tips you guys can throw at me?

I'm throwing these questions out there because I remember some people saying you could fuck yourself over if you picked the wrong character build in Oblivion if I remember.

In Oblivion it was easy to screw yourself over, for example if you made heavy and light armor 2 of your primary skills or something like that. I don't think that you can really screw yourself in Fallout, just know that the laser weapons are probably the best in the game.

Strength is overrated unless you're going to do alot of melee fighting. There are perks that you can get to increase the amount that you can carry.

Unless you want a third world character like our polish friend here, I would not listen to him. Endurance is a fine attribute to dump points into.

I chose intelligence, agility and charisma as main stat strenghts. For skills I'm focusing on lockpicks, repair, science and speech

Hiumuro, I would decide on maxing out 4-5 skills completely while ignoring 1-2 altogether, and then work your way backwards and pick out the SPECIAL that increase those skills you want to max. For example, I have lock pick, small weapons, big guns, medicine and speech maxed out while I completely ignored unarmed and sneak. Your skills will still increase when you find books and bobbleheads, but that is the strategy that I would use.

yeah, i neglected speech my first run, and it gets pretty important later in the game

medicine is really important at all points in the game

small weapons are important at the beginning

lock pick i can take or leave, but if you like loot go for it

science saves you some hassles in harder areas

fuck sneak, it's sort of worthless

unless you like the hilarious punching cinematics in vats, unarmed isn't necessary

INT and STR and for the love of the powers above get the "Bloody Mess" perk as quickly as possible. It's just awesome to see things ass-plode into little tiny pieces

Endurance IS THE WORST POSSIBLE attribute next to Luck where you can dump points into.

So you'll have more hit-points and higher rad resistance. Whoopee-doo. In the meantime I'll kill monsters 10 times faster and get 10 times more dialogue responses and quests.

if you have speech all the way up you dont even have to do any side quests. Just accept them, wait two days, talk to the person again and say you did it but "*insert something wrong happened*" and you'll get cred it for it.

i think i added like only 1 point to endurance

then i went w/ STR, CHAR, AGI, & LUCK

the rest i dumped into barter, speech, medecine, melee weapons, small guns, and like 1 point to lockpick

STR, Char, Luck (No higher than 6, there are a lot of +Luck carryables) and Int. Everything else is bunk.

Also: SMALL GUNS SMALL GUNS SMALL GUNS. Big Guns is kind of useless, start dropping some change into Energy Weapons around 15. Get your Repair and Meds up, DEFINITLEY Lock Pick. Science is iffy. It comes in handy every now and again and can offer you some neat side-story shit, but it's broadly useless.

Get a bit of every skill other a few weapon skills you don't want and barter since it's fairly useless. Don't get perks that increases skills, and get the Comprehension perk because there's a lot of books. Theoretically you only need to put enough points so you have 40 across the board, there's 25 skill books and 1 bobblehead for each making it a total of 50 collectible points per skill with the Comprehension perk.

Basically just don't load all your points into one skill, and don't bother with the skill perks because they're useless in the long run.

It's hard to give sure fire advice about stats in this...you can't really bork yourself, unless you put everything into one stat-type.  even then, it would probably make for a fun playthrough.  Any way you choose, you'll be weak in something and miss out on some of the good stuff that comes from it.

This is the most in depth wrpg I've played in a long time. It's great to see them actually enhance what wrpgs did great in the late 90's instead of dumbing them down as they have done the majority of this decade.

Good job on the skills, much better than your earlier attempt. You never played F1 or F2 or Baldur's Gate?

I have played F1 and BG2, but last night I didn't particularly have much time to put time into the game so I  was like "whatever, I'm going to get out of the vault and experience Fallout 3."

I always make new characters in just a few hours in these types of games.

oblivion was a great game

You know, I like Oblivion, but I don't think it's on the same level as Fallout 3. But Morrowind bored me to tears.

But in my post I wasn't even talking about Oblivion, I was talking wrpgs in general, which seem to have taken a step back in terms of gameplay/scope/features than they did only 10 years ago. Of course, I didn't play wrpgs ten years ago, but I played the classics in the past 3-5 years, and when I see games like KOTOR, Jade Empire, or whatever I shake my head because those games don't even compare to the games that came out a decade prior and it's hilarious. I haven't played KOTOR2 or NWN2 yet, but I have faith in those games given the developers. I guess I'm just finally glad to get out of the poo poo, downgraded mess that are Bioware games.
