Common - Universal Mind Control... WHY?!
« on: December 08, 2008, 06:54:02 PM »

Weakest Common album yet, weakest Neptunes production yet... what is going on here? Also, Pharrell's verse in Announcement was clearly ghostwritten by Pusha T, IMO. (Or Common. Definitely not by Pharrell, though.)

I am a huge Pharrell / Neptunes / Common fan too...  :'(

Because otherwise, some people might not behave how I want, and that can get really frustrating.

Didn't even feel like making a thread for this garbage. He managed to make an album worse than Finding Forever

Common albums are nothing more than him filling various quotas. Every album has the same pattern: poppy bullshit song for the ladies, the "for the seeds" kickin' knowledge song, the "i'm from Chicago nicca!" battlerap song, etc. It's diminishing returns though - each album features a worse version of the quota.

In terms of albums from older artists Q-Tip dropped a good album this year. GZA's album is...eh. Lyrically he's still on top but he's got absolutely no energy on the album. Overall it's a good record but I listened to it a couple times and deleted it from my iPod

What a waste of a good beat.

Also rappers should also stop giving Hype work. He's awful.

Be was his last halfway decent album.

This new one is total crap.  I think Electric Circus was his worse but this one might be just as bad.

It hurts to say, but I blame the terrible Neptunes beats.

Resurrection is not only his best album but one of the best hip hop albums ever. Not a big fan of One Day It'll All Make Sense; it's ok but contains some dumb filler and sounds...neutered. What's up with Lauryn Hill making appearances on sophomore slump rap albums? Haven't heard Like Water for Chocolate
