He rates "most overrated" as most well received despite it's flaws.  GTA is probably the most underrated by that standard.  It was hyped like hell before it came out but then when it came out, people were pissed off that it made actual changes.  It became a love-it-or-hate-it type of game.

5) Mass Effect
The long-in-the-tooth Bioware RPG formula applied to a generic sci-fi universe, with bouncing buggy driving/shooting sequences standing in for the exploration of alien worlds

This is a surprise.  I almost completely agree with this list (other than Civ4, which I didn't play) and the caveat, except I would probably bump L4D up a few notches and remove Wii Fit; it's supposed to be a list of overrated games.

2) Saints Row 2
This is the paragon of open-world city-havoc sandboxes. It's a pitch-perfect example of a game that accomplishes exactly what it intends to accomplish. It's crass and generous and spectacular, stuffed with stuff to do, usually involving the liberal application of chaos. Like the first Saints Row, it out-Grand Theft Autos the best of them: Mercenaries, The Godfather, Scarface, Bully, Grand Theft Auto itself, and even Crackdown. If there is a better realized vision of a city as a massive free-wheeling incendiary playground, I haven't seen it. And the fact that I can play almost every corner of Saints Row 2 cooperatively is almost obscene. Really, Volition? You're going to go that far above the competition? That's just showboating.

They're probably both good games, but just not in the exact same genre of sandbox games.  It is possible to make a fun sandbox game where you're not a super-mutant gangst*r curb-stomping anybody with a smaller gun.

I usually think Tom Chick is a snooty PCfag, but he did well at the top of his list.  Saints Row 2, Fallout 3, and Far Cry 2 were just so fucking amazing.  It's a shame he allowed his entire career to be questioned by the inclusion of a Rare game.

I thought the overrated list was really good, other than Braid (sort of unfair complaints) and the Colonization remake, which to be honest few overrated anyway due to the state of its release.

Really good to see MGS4, GTA4, Spore, and Left 4 Dead get a bit of a whippin' though. Each of those games earned it in their own special ways.

I didn't play Braid past the demo, wasn't my kind of game, but is Tom sort of on the mark there? Or was it just a medicore game that was spun into fame by the ending (which was supposedly sort of "awesome" if the internet is to be believed).

I think I was too busy playing Birth of America 2 or something at the time and wasn't on the boards too much.

i like it a lot, but i could see where someone wouldn't

i think the multiplayer significantly bumps up replayability

and you really have no reason to complain about length or longevity if you buy the pc version, because you're gonna get a ton of free shit

plus, the game's been on sale like a dozen times already since release, so unless you're a dumbass like me you can get it for way less than full price
