region locked! fugginwiggid.

Sony couldn't score in a tower block.

It's not region locked.  Just sign in from a different account and you can sign into that different home server.

I assumed Region locked meant that if you downloading it from the Japanese PSN, you couldn't use it on the US PSN.  Well, whatever.

and yeah, they don't even have the invites for games up yet in home, so it's even more useless than you would imagine.

You weren't in the older beta, were you? for as shitty as this still is, it's actually a big improvement over the previous version.  Old version didn't even have in-game XMB or background downloading.

Even if they could have lined up all those advertisers, why did they think people would show up?  It's astounding how dumb it is.

depends on if they actually implement functionality at one point or not.  As of right now there is no way to start a game, get others to join, and play despite that being one of the big features promised.  You can't even have you're own TV where you can stream video content or pictures for others to see.  Two of the 'big' features that Home was supposed to have are completely absent, and this is a case where they hide behind calling it a Beta so they aren't rushed.

The virtual PSP was worse because it used the XMB menu and it didn't really fit what functions you needed.

Well that video streaming was always BS.  Even if you have a 1 Mb upload, how would you stream HD video?

I don't know, it would probably be extremely low res or just pictures.

Even when they start adding more locations like pointless game themed areas (the uncharted bar is fucking hilariously bad that I almost feel sorry for the people that are into this kind of crap) it's still going to be awful unless you and your friends go out and buy keyboards because communicating with the controller sucks balls.  I ran into Eel O'Brian this morning before I went to work and then quickly realized how impossibly lame it'll be to have any sort of conversation going using the dual shock.  I just won't even do it.   I guess I could use my bluetooth headset but for whatever reason anytime someone uses a headset on the PS3 the sound quality is all over the fucking map to the point that it's completely distracting.  I think the best bet would be to meet on XBL and then move into Home while still using the 360 chat.  Infact I've already done that a few times myself.

Right now, all I want from Home is the ablity to create a fucking hideous beast of an avatar and then go grief some people and as it stands right now it's pretty limiting in both areas.

There is already a growing school of Home apologetics, fostered by the same Order of Perpetual Masochists who lauded the rumble-free Sixaxis at launch and suggested, hilariously, that Lair and Heavenly Sword were videogames. They're under the impression that because something is free, this places it on some golden dais beyond censure. It's no virtue to give away something that no-one in their right mind would buy. They have no idea what this world is for, and that ambiguity infuses every simulated millimeter of it.

Home review in short:

Good: It's decent to get together and meet people who actually own a PS3 to play Resistance

Bad: No customization options, hardly any free default shit, fucking buggy ass servers, lifeless looking characters, queues for fucking BOWLING for christsakes, hardly ANYTHING to do.

I estimate that 95% of the development team were trying to suck their own dicks while the other 5% were actually doing something about it. As a PS3 supporter and a self professed one at that, this is pretty pathetic. I only had fun whenever I was fucking around with friends. After that, it was pretty boring.

Good job Sony, you shot yourself in the foot.

Is home by the Europeans? I know Phil headed the project, but in the (...) Qore video about Home the guy who was presented it was a white American guy, I think he was the head on this problem.

and Motorstorm PR, KZ2, LBP all redeem euro Sony.

actually euro Sony seems to be the only good sony now

That's because Qore is done by SCEA marketing. Home was a SCEE project completely.

Look at the changes, PS Blog, and PSN integration that has been done on PlayStation.com. That's SCEA. The failure that is Home is SCEE.

also, the sfag argument regarding "free" online and PSN vs XBLA in general has actually been damaged by this.

Nothing is free.  Home has made it clear that Sony has been shoveling money into a project that delivers none of what they promised and fails to provide even some of the most basic online social features of XBL Gold.  If I were a Sony shareholder I would be furious right now.  Home represents almost four years and likely millions of dollars.  Yes, development of Home began in early 2005.  Four years later we have what was released yesterday.  If I worked for Xbox marketing, I would recommend all gamers spend three hours in Home.  One hour was enough to make me realize how simple, elegant, and efficient NXE is.  Home shows how poorly Sony is using what little money they are making off the PS3.

I so want Playstation 3 to succeed.  I was so excited about Home when it was announced, but I realize now Home is just another example of Sony missing the point and missing an opportunity to excel.

Until Sony gets their ducks in a row, I'll enjoy my PS3 for what it's best for... playing Persona 4 and Band of Brothers on blu-ray.

Yeah I don't think I'll be visiting Home very often. I like how when making a character the facial hair icon has a beard and yet there are no freaking beards to choose from, just the pedophile staches. I'm sure they're holding my beard hostage somewhere behind loading screens and credit card payments... but yeah I don't care to look.

What's the over/under on Sony killing Home?

Seriously, this looks to be one of those classic scenarios you study in business school where because a company has spent $XXXXXXX on an idea/product/project they won't kill it even though everyone involved knows it will fail.

Yeah but you could apply that to over 1/2 the decisions Sony has made this gen.  They're REALLY stubborn.  They will never admit they did something wrong and back off.
