Look. Lil Wayne has gotten better over the last few years but he's still not the best, and never will be. The Carter was a pretty good album due to some good production, alright lyrics. But it wasn't classic. Neither was The Carter II, which was pretty good.

However, for the love of God, stop endorsing Lil Wayne as the best of the best. Some people's taste in hip hop fell off when Lil Jon got famous.

Don't bring Lil Wayne to EB or suffer the consequences.

Fuck Lil Wayne.

It's so strange watching the white hipster movement and music establishment herald Wayne as the king of hip hop. He seems to not only get their blessing but that of many hip hop fans - casual and hardcore. As an outsider I find myself puzzled by this

There were probably grumpy hip hop heads who dismissed Tupac and Biggie as mainstream blowhards, but even they had to give props eventually. This is different imo because Wayne has so few redeeming qualities. You may not have liked Biggie, but you couldn't deny his lyrical skills, same with Tupac to a lesser degree. Hell, I shit on Jay-Z all the time but he deserves props for his first album. But what has Lil Wayne done to deserve inclusion in any "best of" discussions?

Classic albums? Nope
Classic songs? Nope
Classic quotables? Nope

Which Lil Wayne song will still be getting heavy play in a decade? Show me his Me Against the World, or his Everyday Struggle, or his One Love, or his Dead Presidents, etc.

Lil Wayne is very good in terms of mainstream rap.

Mainstream rap has been in the shitter for at least a half decade now, probably due to the influx of crunk music that basically dropped the bar so low that any idiot could get signed as long as Lil Jon was producing. Lil Wayne would get Rodney King'd by 2pac or Biggie but when your competition is Young Jeezy or Dem Franchise Boyz, you will stand out from them. He has some decent wordplay. Again, with what is out there today, Wayne does stand out.

I do have all of his albums and a couple of his mixtapes and I usually find one or two tracks that I like. He's garbage and I don't get his hype but I understand why he is popular but that is only due to what else is out there today for mainstream rap.
