I'm more intrigued by Versus, but that VS trailer was like 99.9% CG, boring CG accompanied by boring music and editing mind you.

The XIII trailer has a lot of old stuff that we have seen before, it's mostly CG also, but the whole thing is growing a bit on me, this gen has been a bit scarce on quality fantasy settings, and that trailer is like "epic" Sci Fi fantasy, so cool.

Fucking meh at the whole deal though. A bunch of cg shit does nothing for me anymore.

Sucks that I'll have to wait so long though..

More hyped on Versus because the game is more like the Ps1 FF games. Worldmap, airships etc.

the endings of both trailers were real time

at this point I think Versus has me more interested in it, but the chances of SE making a better action RPG than traditional RPG are incredibly slim.

They tried going back with IX.

I don't remember the response being warm enough (from VII & VIII fans) to warrant more for Square.

I'll probably stick to DQ then. I'm sick of the Sci-Fi FFs. FFXIII looks like Mass Effect: Nomura Belt Edition.

a lot of the 'sci-fi' stuff in Final Fantasy is usually magic anyway, and I'm pretty sure magic is a key element of fantasy. Only a few were really sci-fi like FF7.

How do you measure a backlash? In people not buying sequels/spinoffs? It just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I mean the DS game sold 524k in Japan-- for some rejection of what the game was, that's quite a successful spinoff. This isn't a Joanie Loves Chachi.

As for cheap copies, it was a massively shipped PS2 game that's two years old. I dunno what you've seen first hand, but the MSRP is still 20. Has retained its value fairly well for a major PS2 game. Something like God of War 2 is priced similarly.

Isolated hardcore communities whining on 2ch. I wouldn't be surprised if most people think FFXII was a B- or C game in Japan (if you could somehow poll the population), but they're not so spurned by it that they aren't coming out in droves to play related games :\

In other news, FFIV underperformed there, so go figure.

I thiiiiiink I remember what you're talking about, but it was just some rating site for hardcore gamers. The number of people polled would represent a tiny fraction of those who bought the game.

Hardly any in-game footage shown (not even talking about gameplay here) and the demo releasing halfway through the year in an exorbitant way bundled with a blu-ray release. I'm not saying it's a 0% chance of it in 2009, but I still don't think there is a 100% chance that it will be out in 2009. Release dates are fickle.

It's still PS3 exclusive in Japan. I don't see how a 360 port would delay its release in Japan, especially when the team stated that they would start the port once the Japanese version is completed.

Anyway, I see it being released there in late 2009 -- considering they're giving a demo with FFVII AC Complete earlier that year. 2010 for the other regions.

The demo is due in March. SE rarely shows much of anything until 4-8 months before a game's release.

I counted at least more than one time in this thread that people said these games look good. Dudes, they haven't even shown the game. They've only shown movies. There is nothing there to look good, yet!!!

Battle screens look real to me.

What do you mean 'haven't shown the game yet'? the ends of both these trailer were 'in-game'. If you are implying about the actual 'gameplay' of these games, I don't think anyone is commenting on that but rather the style and setting of what they've seen. I don't see how this is something unique to a Final Fantasy game because it's the same case for 99% of games out there.

If the battles are up and running, why not show those in the trailer? The ending of the FF13 trailer looks like it could be real-time, but it doesn't show a damn thing. I still don't think we've seen anything real-time for Versus.

That's my point. I'm annoyed with Square because they likely have a beautiful, nearly complete game and yet they refuse to actually show it.

I love Final Fantasy, but I'm very annoyed with how they've handled FF13 so far.

i'm pretty sure FF13 is already done, but for some reason they just won't reveal it. I'm thinking of the 360 version and localization as a possible reason. It's just a baseless assumption, really.
