Nomura says he decided not to release his art to keep the focus on the CG versions.  I think he did a Lightning illustration as a special for a magazine though.

If it's coming out this year, I'm sure that the PS3 version is mostly done at a higher level, but it still requires many layers of polish, tuning, and testing.  At the very least, you know that the sections in the demo should already be polished, so I'm not sure why they won't even show that.

However, it just takes a long time to finish and polish a game on this scale.  Final Fantasy games are usually horribly unbalanced by the time you reach the end game, so I can't imagine how bad they must be before they receive months of tuning.

This playthrough of FFX made me lower it in my personal FF list.

The fact you always fight 2-3 enemies at once and there's maybe 5 enemy types total brought it down this time. I mean, I like the idea of the chraracters having specific strengths and weaknesses, but when you fight the same enemy types the entire game it gets boring. On top of this, the linearity finally got to me and I never noticed the amount of cutscenes that game had before this. I found it utterly ridiculous.

I hadn't played FFX in a few years, but this playthrough was an eye opener.

First time I played the game was at a friends house and it got to the point I'd be doing all the blitzball stuff for it.  I bought the game myself later on and played through it.  Come to think of it, a lot of jrpgs I ended up buying were after I tried them or some time at his house (he only really played jrpgs). 

FFX is fun though, but I think it has the worst cast of characters Final Fantasy has ever had.  Yuna specifically is one of the worst characters in any game ever.

So in FFX-2, after they've defeated Sin, she's supposed to be dead. However, the one constant throughout her life -- Yevon -- was a sham. It's basically Yuna trying to find who Yuna really is, and not some shmuck used for the religion she would have sacrificed herself to. Yuna in X is a strong female lead, Yuna in X-2 is a strong female lead who doesn't know her place in the world. I think the way X and X-2 develop Yuna make her the best female character in the series.

I've never understood this. How does she look whoreish? So wearing short shots means someone is whoreish now? The same people who criticize X-2's designs never noticed that most people in X's world are shirtless, or dress in loose clothing to begin with. What would happen to someone who was a devotely religious person, only to realize her religion was a sham? After realizing that, after when she was sent to die from an early age, you'd think she'd try things to find herself right? It's the same reason she takes the clothes Rikku gives her even though she's not sure about them, and why throughout the game, she copies Rikku left and right.

Tifa looks 1000 x more whoreish than Yuna in X-2 ever did, since almost everyone in X wears loose clothing given the climate.

Her dialogue was fine, I just think it was the English version. In X-2, she's fine because they don't attempt to lip sync. In X, they attempted to lip sync and this forced the voice actress to cause Yuna.......to talk.....like.........this.

Although Blue Dragon (along with Ratchet PS3) are games that make me wish that Nintendo games like Mario Galaxy were HD.  Blue Dragon look so good.

LO is probably better now that you can install games.

LO is a great rpg with shitty load times, an awful story, and a bland cast.  Cut out the load times and it's not much worse than most big j-rpgs.

The story completely fell apart once you hit Gohtza. I mean, people say that now for every game (FFs 1-12 have fallen apart, KH falls apart, DQ falls apart, etc.), but this game really got out there. It was FF8ish in terms of coincidence and then the Gohtza king started talking and his words didn't make any sense.

But I still liked the gameplay a bit. It's not as good as FFX...not having the turn order displayed at all times was a very strange decision. The decision to display it after the turn was over rendered it basically useless. The ring system was effective for only half of the party given that it didn't matter much at all with mages. There was little reason to use any of the humans (outside of Seth) at all on disk 4, but that was complicated by how time consuming it became to level and skill grind.

Still really fun though. I think BD is the better game.

I also learned that Bioshock developers are TERRIBLE at compression.  My save game folder was 250megs, that's bigger than most XBLA games.  Every save in Bioshock is 6-12 megs big.  WTF!!!!!!

I think those were pre-loaded on the hard drive, not the other way around.

Fuck Treasure Trove right up the ass.  I got everything in the overworld.  I revisited every area 3 or 4 times.  I spent about 3 hours trying to find whatever in the fuck it was that I missed.  Not getting that pissed me off enough that I got rid of it before the DLC hit.

Apparently there's no random battles. So it'll be like FFXII, but then it'll switch to ATB style which is described to be as more tactical than FFX, faster than FFX-2. Transitions appear to be seamless and Autumn Thread at GAF has said in his impressions that the battles presented in the trailer are the fastest and most ferocious seen in the series.

At this point, I just want the demo.
