i've been in a really bad mood for the last few days and don't know why.  i think it's because winter break started and i have yet another xmas to look forward to with no family whatsoever.  all i have is a dad who lives like an hour away and an uncle in colorado.  i wish i had a big generic family like in the movies that got together for thanksgiving and xmas and all kinds of crazy shit happened like in the chevy chase movie or was it steve martin, the lampoon film.  a girlfriend would be nice too, i guess that would help but even then for xmas eve and day i'd prob be alone because she would have her big family get together.  i just really want a dog, a neapolitan mastiff.  all i need is a house and a backyard.  i feel lonely this time of the year

Don't worry about it. You may wish to have a huge generic family like the ones you see in movies but keep in mind that they're "hollywood-ized."

Hah, I decided to have a quiet christmas with my dad this year at one side of the family, because it's too big and chaotic (around 50+ people) and wanted a change.
Other side is a bit smaller (around 20-30) and relaxed and my mom has to organize it this year. Probably gonna get drunk on champagne like last year!

This Christmas will be the first in three years where I'll be with family.

Yeah kbear, I feel you though.  I always feel "different" this time of year.  I mostly channel it by playing games, working, or just chilling out.  I'm also a big gym rat around this time and been known to go weightlifting twice a day just to pass the time by doing something constructive.

I have had a horrible holiday season so far.  Too much stress at work and just a general feeling of blah has got me down something terrible.  Kind of makes me wish I hadn't given up on drugs and alcohol.

Actually, if you had a girlfriend you'd hopefully be invited to her family get-togethers. But as for this Christmas, you can always get a dog. I have a coworker whose son doesn't always travel to see her on holidays. When he doesn't, she volunteers at the soup kitchen. They always need people and it gives her something worthwhile to do on the holiday.
