Let's talk about miserable temperatures. Driving right now is like driving on a huge block of ice.  :yuck

me and Viz are gonna win this.  One of the few benefits to living in Alaska is being able to complain about how cold it is.
DONT YOU TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME!

I lived in Minneapolis last winter.  It was nice (was with gf), whenever anybody asked me why I moved down there from AK I always told them, "I wanted to go someplace warmer for the winter."  Usually got a laugh.

and it was true.

Do you actually like Alaska? No offense, but when I was there I felt like jumping off a cliff might be a sweet option.

I was born here, so I might be slightly biased, but its not bad.
I really don't do well in hot temperatures, I sweat profusely once its past 75F.  I'm in my late 20's and I've never seen a cockroach in my entire life.  We don't have much crime (lots and lots of alcoholism though), school is relatively cheap, and our politicians, terrible as they might be, never fail to amuse.

We're also a very politically conservative state.  I was heartened to see so many people I personally knew voting for Obama, but really, I can't say for certain, but we might have a higher per capita of white rednecks anywhere else outside then the South and perhaps Idaho.

So there's good points and bad.  I know people love to complain about winters here, but really, I like it.  I like the stillness that comes over everything, you can see the night stars with amazing clarity, and the 18-hours of darkness I'm getting right now is kinda cool.  Summers here are so gorgeous that we have tourists out the wazoo coming over and marveling at stuff I pass by everyday.  I do appreaciate and enjoy living in such a nice place.  Its a slower pace of life I'm sure then most other EB'ers got, but I'm okay with it.

I live on the Kenai Peninsula.  I'm about three hours away from Anchorage.  By Lower 48 standards its rural (or Bumfuck Nowhere as my cosmopolitan lady friend likes to put), by Alaskan standards its the 6th most populated city in the state, with a movie theater and a McDonalds and a Home Depot and shit.  Yeah, small town, but there are lots smaller round here.

our population probably doubles and triples throughout the tourist season (mid-summer is primetime) what with all those outlanders coming over pull gigantic salmon out of our rivers.

and right now its a warm and toasty 0 degrees.  Com Janurary its not unusual for it to stay at -20 throughout the day.  My Cousin in Fairbanks can through a bucket of boiling water out a high window and watch it dissipate to steam before it hits the ground.  Yes, really.

Anything else you want to know?

I own a Guncon2, a Wii Zapper, and a Nyko Perfect Shot.  Bring those fuckers on, I'm ready!
yes, bears have been spotted in my neighborhood, in my backyard (by me), and when I'm walking the family dog.  But these sightings are extremely rare.  I'm more likely to be hurt by an animal by coliding into a (stupid and slow) moose while driving then I am getting mauled by a bear.

I love the cold, but hate the quick temperature changes like that.

It's nearly 50 here in PA right now. Not too shabby!

19 degrees (F) here today, we have another 2-hour delay due to icy roads. We're supposed to get 1-4 inches of snow tonight.
