So yesterday my computer started acting up; I'm guessing it got infected after I used IE to look at some porn, or maybe because I accidentally clicked on an ad. Windows automatic updates isn't working anymore, although it's turned on. I'm getting random popups while browsing with Firefox

Any tips of getting rid of this shit? Windows Defender is telling me nothing is wrong, I downloaded Spybot and got rid of some trojans...but I'm still getting pop ups every now and then. And I'm concerned about Windows updates not working

to be fair he could be browsing legit sites that had their adservers hacked, I see this happening more and more lately.

i use a combination of spybot and adaware myself and try to scan weekly.

i don't get a lot of spyware but it's better to be clean than not

I've been browsing without anti-virus or anti-spyware programs for half a year now, my netbook still runs smoothly.

Running Adblock is a good way to avoid these new nasty trojans that embed themselves into banner ads.

I keep a few spyware protection programs installed "just in case" and run them on-demand. No real time monitoring for those.

I use avira for real time virus protection-as long as I have to trust ad servers like the ones that either my warhammer guild uses or ones that might get hacked, don't take any chances. Also is a top way of preventing keylogger hijacking of passwords.

I run no protection, and scan with MBAM every day or so.

PD, DON'T SCAN AT THE SAME TIME WITH BOTH SCANS

Ok things seem to be working now, although I did get a couple pop ups. Automatic updates are up again. Seems like malwarebytes did the job

Still getting pop ups despite adblock being up but each time one comes up I manually block it. It's not happening enough to distract me

scans are looking good though; don't see any threats

K got rid of the final 4 trojans and everything is running as normal. I also downloaded the NoScript addon which is great. Haven't had any popups

Anyone familiar with sagipsul? I'm getting pop ups with long urls featuring the word "sagipsul". Ran Malwarebytes a couple times and removed trojans, but a few minutes later I still get this pop up. It's not frequent enough to annoy but I want to get rid of it.

Should I start my computer in safe mode, then run Malwarebytes?

You should disconnect from the internet when you run ad-removing programs. Then restart. Then run it again while offline.

I had a scare involving some adware shit when I was looking up rapidshare links to a movie.

I'm in safe mode now; can't get the internet to work otherwise, I click firefox/ie and nothing comes up.

I'll disconnect my ethernet and run a full scan.

I disconnected and did a full scan. Deleted lots of shit, then restarted the computer in normal mode. First time I clicked on firefox it appeared on the screen, then I exited it and reconnected the ethernet. Firefox didn't come up again after that, and in fact nothing did except SAS/malewarebyte. I did a quick scan with malewarebyte and saw 2 trojans pop up immediately sigh

google sdfix.exe

download that, extract it to C:/ or whatever

enter safe mode, click the .bat file to run it, it will restart after 20-30 mins or so then run again in normal windows

it will fix your problems

I used it to fix a computer last night, it takes forever to scan but it works well.

clicking on sdfix.exe should extract it by default to your C:/ drive in a folder named sdfix

I've run it twice and nothing has changed. Basically it restarts after finishing in safe mode, automatically starts again then I get this message

"At this point you should press any key on your computer's keyboard in order to continue to your desktop."

Once I press a key I just get the desktop background but no toolbar, nothing on the desktop. So I'd manually restart it and no programs are coming up (I click on firefox, get the hourglass thing for a couple seconds then nothing comes up).

system restore then? basically enter safe mode and click no then choose a date to restore it to if a restart doesnt help get things back to normal

I've disconnected the ethernet and ran SAS and malwarebyte (not at the same time or during the same session) while in safemode several times. Restarted the computer to get into normal mode and it's still not working. For whatever reason firefox will come up when the ethernet is unplugged, but once I plug it in I can't get firefox to come up again.

I'm gonna wait a bit, watch the performance. Right now I'm not getting any pop ups, no interferences, etc. After I restored the system I checked around in the control panel and noticed the firewall was off hmmm. Turned it back on; I don't remember turning it off recently...

If I reformat I'm going to have to save all my files right. iirc my parents have an external HD somewhere around their house. If I reformat I'll make sure to use it

Nope, I used it in safe mode, then after the reboot used it in normal mode to no avail. Then I used SAS in safe mode, and used malwarebytes on the boot. Each time it tells me things have been successfully cleaned...but I can do a quick search immediately afterward and find the same amount of trojans.

I've reset the router after cleaning, cleaned and then reset the router, etc cleaned multiple times (full and quick).

I'm not getting any popups, the computer is running fine (although it stalled a couple times on boot up today; I'm posting in safe mode). I'm going to try combofix and if that fails I'll reformat

That stuff constantly comes up. I got rid of a vundo trojan but the rest keep coming back

Ok it seems like I got it to work. The problem I had with malwarebytes was that I couldn't update it. Few minutes ago I was able to get it updated, shortly after my firewall blocked access to something (ieD iirc). So I updated, restarted the computer in safe mode (with the ethernet unconnected). Ran the scan and cleaned everything

Upon the reboot in normal mode I checked the streaming sites that previously were not working. They work now

I've fixed half a dozen computers with it's boot time scan for $40 a pop. For the price of a shitty off the shelf AV.

I'd recommend Avira AntiVir over avast any day. Avast noticeably slowed my PC, while Avira doesn't, and Avira has better detection rates.
