Generally, beyond simple nostalgia, blockbusters have an expiration date on their relevancy.  TDK in 10 years will be just another Batman flick, not the Oscar-caliber crime drama it is hailed as by morons today.

The thing is I would say comic book movies of this decade collectively (x-men, spider-man, batman, iron man..etc) had a greater impact on american culture and so forth than Lord of the Rings. Not individually but the incredible rise and amount of the films combined. The superhero genre is really the definitive film type, in terms of blockbusters, of this decade.

I'd say Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, and Fight Club. The Lion King and the other Disney cartoons of the 90's are good ones too.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about over Fight Club. At all.

spoiler (click to show/hide)

Critics always compare new Disney/Pixar movies to The Lion King, and that came out in 1994. :)

I think Titanic gets used quite a bit, and so does Shawshank.

The critics panned Fight Club when it was released. It didn't really have that great word of mouth, either.

Terminator 2 and Silence of the Lambs were the two that were universally loved by fans/critics and remain so today.

What I was gonna say.
And I'd say The Matrix is still pretty well loved and often brought up, despite the sequels.

Terminator 2 is definitely a big one.
