Any reason to upgrade your PSP firmware?
« on: December 17, 2008, 08:39:23 PM »
My PSP is 3.71 M33-4 firmware.  It's been that way since FFVII CC came out and I was sick of my UMD load times for it so I hacked it to legally play games I own in ISO form with no loads.  So far the few games that I've gotten since then seem to still work on the firmware because the ISO versions of games I legally own have the firmware requirements ripped out upon ripping.

Any reason to upgrade if all I do is play games on my PSP?

Not really. 3.71 M33-4 is pretty stable. I would consider upgrading if you wanted to play more PS1 games.

Btw, I hacked my PSP to illegally play games I don't own in ISO form with no loads.

Thanks for the info.  I don't play PS1 games, so I guess I'm fine.

Also does anyone know any easy way to turn a pandora battery back to a normal battery if you didn't keep any of the files and have no idea how you did it a year+ ago?

Either that or where I can buy a cheap 2nd battery?

I have 2 batteries but one is a pandora.  Would like 2 real batteries for playing Dissidia & Cave Story on a plane.

i'd tell you but you contacted other J-EBers about hanging out but not me so .... :P

lol, that wasn't intentional :P  I just figured you'd respond to a general thread on gaf whereas other people who don't post as much wouldn't.  But yeah, I forgot you are banned these days >_<

So let's hang out then!
I'll contact you on the down low...

Run this

I read the readme.  Sounds like too much work with having to format a memory stick and all (I seem to have lost my 256 one I used).

Guess I'll just get a new battery.

It's so quick to upgrade a CFW PSP that there is no reason not to do it.  I think they even let you download it directly onto your PSP now.

I don't want to lose what's on it!

I might scrounge around and try to find an old stick and do it.  Amazon/Newegg want FORTY-DOLLARS for a battery...jeez.

you could just transfer what's in the ms to your computer and then format it. you just need a usb cable. it should cost less than 5 bucks.

I was on 3.51 m33 for the longest time, but wipeout pulse wouldn't run correctly until I updated.

I tried out my roommate's copy of Star Ocean 1 for psp and it said my fw needed an upgrade to play. Apparently you need higher fw for the prinny game and more too.

I don't want to lose what's on it!

Back it up?

Prinny and SO run fine on my 3.71 as ISOs.  Hell even as UMD SO(JPN) runs on my 3.71

Also crisis was averted.  Turns out my Pandora battery was just completely dead, but I found an old lost battery that still works so I can now play some delicious Dissidia for 5-6 hours.

I tried to go to a gamestop and they only sold batteries for the slim PSP-2000.  When I asked about the fat batteries the guy looked at me like I was asking for a video cable for a Commodore 64.  Didn't realize PSP-1000 is regarded as old and forgotten already.  Maybe if PSP-3000 didn't have a broken screen I would've upgraded  :maf

Ripping + firmware requirement removing, yeah.
