I get the call this morning at 5:30 am that we're 2 hours late, while
almost every other district has called it a day. Ok, whatever, I made
the drive yesterday, I can make it again today. I'm going back to bed
until 7:00 am. Get up at 7am, hop in the shower, check the news, even
more districts are closing, but nope, not my district! Get in the Jeep,
have to put on 4WD to get out of the driveway, but I'll make it, since
we're open and you can't use weather as an excuse to not be at work.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S A BLIZZARD WITH THUNDER SNOW... THUNDER SNOW!!

Get on I-5 at 7:30am, never got above 35 mph until I got to SeaTac
Mall.... we're still 2 hours late, while EVERY OTHER DISTRICT
AROUND IS CLOSED FOR THE DAY... but whatever, I'm almost to work, no
problem. Around 8:50 am, I'm coming into town on highway 18 and I
see TONS of school busses headed to the bus barn... huh, I wonder
if they've called it quits yet. Nope, we're still 2 hours delayed
even though Renton and Tukwila just canceled school.

I make it to my middle school after almost 90 minutes in my car, and
even going 10mph with 4WD I SPIN OUT IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. Finally
park, walk inside, and THEY FINALLY CANCEL SCHOOL FOR THE DAY.

So I'm like FUCK THIS SHIT, I'm here, I'm going to get some work done.
That and I-5 Northbound looked like a fucking nightmare, so I'm not
going to brave it for a while. Get what I needed to get done done, and
then I'm driving back North home to Seattle.

All the city streets in my district's town were pure ice, but administration waits until
45 minutes before kids are scheduled to show up to cancel. Every other
South King County district canceled, and every private school in
town was already closed for the day. What the hell is wrong with
them?

Yay... I'm home. I better not have to do this again tomorrow.

No, the principal, vice principal, secretaries, and some teachers were there, who were just as pissed as I was. I don't mind coming in to work, but for the love of God make your decision before some of us nearly kill themselves!!

We usually get snow like that [a few inches] once a year, but it only lasts for a day at most before it starts to melt.

there hasn't been good snow in my area in years.  The closest this season was some hail, followed by powder on tuesday.

If you're from somewhere that gets snow on a regular basis, it's not that bad. Seattle, however, does not have a ton of resources to deal with the snow since we never get it. When it hits, we panic and freak out like it's the end of the world.

My beef is with the district I work for calling school at the last minute when everyone else had made the decision hours before.

Seattle weather update:

There are two private tour buses hanging above I-5 in Seattle, looks like Capitol Hill based on the shots we're seeing on the news. The fronts of them are each hanging off the road right above Northbound I-5.

omg, bus plunge ? In Seattle? I've driven that part of I-5 enough to not be surprised but man that's the kind of story you see in the land of dirty poors, not in Starbuckia.

The buses were part of a carvan from Moses Lake (Eastern Washington). YOU DO NOT DRIVE BUSES DOWN THAT STREET. DUMBASSES.

Also, how the hell do you get over the pass without trouble but then almost busplunge on I-5. Seriously, driving the pass in winter felt like gambling my life the three times I've done it.

I went to graduate school over in Ellensburg, so I drove over the pass nearly every single weekend (my now-wife lived in Seattle when I was at CWU, so I drove over on weekends to see her), it's not too bad.

I think this is case of stupid people taking buses down a street that they shoudln't have.

We went and saw Let the Right One In over at the Varsity in the U-District. Got out of the movie around 4:30 and everything was covered and the snow was coming down hard. Doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon.

So I went to buy DVDs. I was in the store for maybe 20 minutes. By the time I came outside my car's windshield had fucking iced over. I then went and got teriyaki and tabbed on the phone and made birfday plans.

Even with the defroster on full blast, the windshield was refreezing while I was driving to Safeway earlier...
