Burn After Reading: Awesome idea, horrible execution
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:24:04 PM »
Did the Coen Bros. write this thing like during a late night while watching syndicated television and drinking Red Bull?

The only stuff that made me laugh were the briefing sessions with JK Simmons.  "God no, burn the body." :lol

... I will say they created these great characters and just kind of misused all of them.

I can guess at what it was and that certainly sucks.  I walked in without knowing much outside the preview, but my expectations were pretty high because it was the Coen Bros.  Maybe I expected too much. :-\

Eh, it was a funny scene, but I thought the reveal of...

... Clooney's homemade rocking dildo chair...

... was a lot funnier.

I loved Brad Pitt's character in it.  Best part of the movie.

I'm not sure how you'd know unless it was from personal experience...

And yeah, Brad Pitt rocked in a performance that had very little screen time.  I really thought almost ALL the characters were well written save for the wives of the two main married guys (Clooney and Malkovich).  Coen Bros. do a great job at creating these unique characters and usually telling great stories, but this seemed more like an exercise and not really a finished product.

It's a good minor Coen movie, nothing more.

I was fine with that, after their last film you needed kind of a Coen Brothers little desert flick. They did this big oscar winning drama and give a very light Coen brothers quirky comedy as the followup. Which was exactly what was needed after NCFOM.

Yeah, I never really went in or expected it to match the quality of No Country and Fargo.  It was very forgettable but it was still a pretty good flick.  I wouldn't say its horrible exectution, I just think it's a movie that's easy to glance over and forget.

George Clooney was fucking hysterical.

Raising Arizona will always be my favorite Coen Brothers movie. I watched it like 100 times when I was like 7.

I could watch a whole movie of Malkovich drop the f-bomb.  He makes "fuck" sound so classy. :-*

I wasn't blown away by it, but I liked Burn After Reading. The best parts definitely were the briefing sessions.

I didn't like the movie...

started watching it and then got distracted by something more interesting and stopped.
