hello and welcome to 1998
« on: December 20, 2008, 02:35:43 PM »
so, I'm bored waiting for my commencement ceremony and I decided to pick up the Starcraft Battle chest for my macbook.  This shit is tight  8)  I've never played an RTS before and this is really fun.

I should get a mouse though...scrolling the map with a track pad is impossible.  I have to do it all on the minimap.  I'm assuming you can grab and scroll with a scrollwheel button.

For Pete's sake buy a mouse.

And after you finish Starcraft, get Warcraft 3. The story in both is pretty cool, and Warcraft 3 has some mini rpg mechanics (your Hero units can equip items and gain experience and new skills)

yeah, it was a tough call between starcraft and warcraft, but then I went to the store and WC battlechest was $39 vs. $19 for SC.

I'm gonna install it on my PC when I get home so I can use a mouse.  hopefully saves transfer.

wait, does civ IV count?  'cause I bought that a few months ago, played it for like 8 hours straight, then shelved it because it would probably ruin my entire semester.  :lol

Civ IV is a turn-based game, while RTS stands for "real-time strategy." Turn-based games are like RTS games in the same way that chess is like a rioting mob.

Sega should have really advertised the Saturn's 2D capabilities and the fact that the 3D graphics of the N64 and PS1 looked like shit.

lol.  in the real 1998, I was on a hiatus from gaming...a lot of it had to do with MGS, FFVII and RE2.  After beating those, I felt "done" with gaming for while (because they were so awesome.)  lasted for the next 5 years or so.

Final Fantasy 7 has such a great soundtrack!  I downloaded the entire thing in MIDI format!

Time for me to go on SEGA's website and enjoy playing free Flash games of Sonic and Last Bronx!  Man, this Flash stuff is awesome!

Now I shall download an episode of the Pokemon TV Show in realplayer format.  The window size reminds me of a postage stamp, but you can kind of make out what's going on if you fullscreen it!

Wow, I just discovered this awesome program that lets me play videogames on the computer!  I just downloaded some great Super Nintendo games!  For some reason the graphics are really weird sometimes, I can't see past smoke or go to different floors in some games.  But, if I press the number keys, it just removes or changes the graphics so I can see again!  The NES one seems to be ok, but I don't understand why the mouse turns into a bloody hand.

It's annoying download these ROMs though, everytime I want to get one I have to go vote for the top 100 ROM sites and go to these porn sites and search for the 4th word in the 3rd paragraph!

If you said that to me back in 1998, I would have argued that OoT was a much better game.  I know because every lunch period I would argue with a friend about this.

Actually, a good deal of us got FFVII for Christmas 97. Even then, people were still talking about FFVII well into 1998 and were still playing it then too.

I don't think I ever heard anyone compare MGS to OoT back then.

NUTBAGS. 1998 was TOTALLY MGS vs. OOT. They were released within a month of each other. Your lunch table was probably full of distinguished mentally-challenged people and was slow.

Yeah, I never had an MGS vs OoT argument in my life

I do remember having MGS vs Tenchu arguments where I would claim Tenchu was a better stealth game.

I didn't even know what MGS past being an inferior to Tenchu at the time.  I didn't play past the Pizza-hut demo until Zone of the Enders came out when my friend told me to try the MGS2 demo.  I really liked the MGS2 demo, and that coupled with knowing that MGS was about mechs got me to play MGS1.
