I would have bought one if I had the scratch when they came out.  There's a lot of stuff in Merzbox that has never been released in any other form, and a lot of stuff in there that is unavailable in any realistic form unless you were like, collecting 7" and tapes in Japan in the early 80s.

Oh I'm sure it's a valuable collection in sheer sound value, but as someone who used to trade a bit in limited edition boxsets from various lesser known to down right unknown artists, I've bloody well earned the right to be condemning of network distribution and the resulting ease of finding "rare" gems.

On a related note, I'll have to check into this collection. I was completely unaware of its existence.

I might be off, but I think each Merzbox cost ~500 bucks, and (according to Wiki) there were only 1000 of them made.  I was in college at the time it came out, probably at the point in my life where I was listening to the most Merzbow I ever have, so I kinda lusted after it a bit.
