I'm getting these annoying flickering (or static) dots on the screen when playing certain games. If you've ever seen a computer show early signs of overheating, then it will look familiar. It used to crash, hasn't done that lately, but now I'm getting more and more of these things. Not prevalent enough to disrupt any games, but totally enough to know that something has gone to shit. And, I've noticed, I'm seeing this familiar bug in nearly every game I play these days. Looks like polygons stretching from one or more objects across the screen. Not sure what the name for the bug is, but I've seen it before when screwing up modeling some edges in 3d. I wouldn't necessarily connect this to the hardware, hadn't it become more common in pace with more of those damned dots appearing. It's not perfectly consistent, but it's affecting more and more games. This bug is a lot more annoying, especially in MotorStorm 2 where I've more than once mistaken blocks of rogue polygons for course objects.
So what the hell is up? The obvious conclusion is that it's overheating or that some component got a bad jolt (oddly, these issues seem to be affected by HDD access), but those stretching issues don't mesh with that. I'm not sure if I should send it in for service or just sell the shit system As Is and pick up another one when they are $199 or less. That would actually be a totally reasonable option, wasn't it for the fact that it will be difficult to get a complete system, meaning one with full BC. Then again, it's not like there are even a ton of games, so maybe it's a sign to just stick with proper gaming until next generation or something.
